Great day for California Life Sciences (CLS) attending Physicians for a Healthy California, Health Equity Leadership Summit! Panelist, Maria Jison, MD, (Executive Director, Global Clinical Head, Fasenra) of member company AstraZeneca spoke to the strides they've made using their AIRE Mobile Unit as a “clinic on wheels” that brings trial screenings directly to patients in diverse communities. The mobile unit is equipped with exam rooms and staffed with healthcare professionals who are ready to pre-screen patients and book both an appointment and transportation for patients to visit the clinical trial site they’re referred to. Per Maria, "You can't be successful without community engagement and building trust. It's not enough to just show up in a bus.....you really need to be part of the community. A multi-pronged engagement campaign is required. Outreach alone isn't enough — you need to partner with other organizations that are part of the community and trusted." #EquitableResources #PhysiciansForAHealthyCalifornia #HealthEquity

It isn’t hard to imagine why physicians who are “Specialized in Generalism” and understand the breadth of both illness experiences and wellness needs experienced by the people they serve might have an advantage in leading higher performing hospitals than CEOs with other phenotypes and preparation. The need for revolutionary change and the development of future leaders in order to bridge the quality gap. "As leaders we are given the responsibility for change and we need to let go of the familiar and grasp the uncertainty of those next unfamiliar steps in order to set the conditions for healthcare systems to evolve. It is evident from this line of thought that we are living now in the world created through the choices and actions of our predecessors. It is equally clear that as leaders we hold the responsibility for the future of healthcare and that we are custodians for the next generation.
