The historical ignorance on how we treat Women's Health issues is a very accurate description; as there is minimal to no training on endometriosis, women's sexual health Issues, pain around intercourse, in medical school and residency. Physicians are approached by patients for these very common problems, and are left without answers or treatment options. I think the solution proposed here is genius, with a shared goal of better health and care for women. At Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine, we are in the unique situation that we have collected data on thousands of women who have undergone our office-based procedures with the PRM Protocol™, and we are clearly demonstrating that we keep pelvic pain patients working, having intercourse, sleeping, exercising, and out of the emergency room - and out of the doctors office in general. I feel proud that we have been able to speak and publish in some of the most prestigious medical journals on our innovative and unique protocol. The data is clear, however, innovation and change for Women's Health is not easy, and getting the healthcare community to accept that there is a better way for our patients, and getting the insurance companies to take the time to pay attention and care about women's health is a challenge. Did you know Certified Nurse Midwives can care for women across the lifespan, and not just during pregnancy? Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) possess a wealth of knowledge and expertise in women's health care, yet we remain underutilized within the field, and our scope is oftentimes misunderstood. ACOG's Joint Statement of Policy with the American College of Nurse-Midwives recognizes and supports CNMs and Certified Midwives (CMs) practicing to the full extent of their credential, training, and experience". This endorsement emphasizes the importance of harnessing the unique skills of CNMs, thereby enhancing women's healthcare experiences and improving overall outcomes. As an advocate for improved healthcare, I hope to see my profession embraced and well integrated into these new OhioHealth and OSU facilities. We should be allowing CNMs to provide comprehensive care, childbirth support, reproductive health services, and perimenopausal support to women in our communities. By maximizing CNM potential, we can truly optimize women's healthcare and promote healthier outcomes for all.

Everyone should have fair access to healthcare. Right? 😀 And everyone should be listened to. Right? 🙂 And not dismissed or ignored. Right? 😐 Right? 😧 Sadly, this is simply not the case for women. In fact, 84%* of women report that there have been instances in which they have not been listened to by healthcare professionals. Eighty. Four. Per. Cent. This is a complex, multi-faceted problem and many things need to change in order for 84% to look more like 0%. Ultimately, systemic change is needed and, unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen overnight; it will be slow and hard fought. That said, there is so much that can be done immediately. Notably, women need access to the right information so that they are able to: ✅ better understand themselves  ✅ better understand the options available to them ✅ collect and appropriately organise all necessary information (i.e. symptom diaries) ✅ feel confident and informed when seeing a healthcare professional ✅ advocate for themselves and hold their ground ✅ demand a second (3rd, 4th ...) opinion if necessary Part of our mission at Evelyn Health is to provide women experiencing PMS or PMDD with this very information.
