Does insecure attachment only stem from abuse or neglect in childhood? The short answer - No. Insecure attachment can develop for soooo many different reasons. It can arise from a range of experiences such as inconsistency in caregiving, emotional unpredictability, or even feeling unsupported or dismissed at times during childhood. Attachment styles are about how we learned to connect with others, but they can change over time based on our adult experiences and relationships. So, even if you had a good childhood, you might still develop an anxious attachment style later in life if you face challenging or unpredictable situations. Our attachment style isn't just about the past; it's also influenced by our present and future interactions with others.
