In 2005, Peter Beasley made history as the first Black member of the Society of Information Management (SIM) Dallas Chapter. His mission? To open doors for fellow Black IT professionals in an industry known for its lack of diversity. But instead of support, Peter faced retaliation. His attempts to foster inclusivity were met with public shaming, financial ruin, and hefty court battles. He lost everything—except his unwavering will to fight back. Fast forward to today: Peter Beasley is not just surviving; he's thriving. As the co-founder of BUiLT (Blacks United in Leading Technology), he's turned his personal adversity into a powerful movement, empowering Black tech professionals across the nation. Day 1 of Black in eCommerce was absolutely amazing! This conference provided Entrepreneurs with and abundance of knowledge, access and encouragement to keep following their dreams. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Embrace Your Identity: Embrace your unique background and experiences as strengths in your entrepreneurial journey. 2. I've been reflecting on what an incredible time I had at last week's UK Black Business Week and UK Black Business Show - I've met so many new people and learnt so much ! Undoubtedly, my highlight of the entire week was the closing remarks by Steven Bartlett. My top 3 key takeaways from the excellent speakers we heard from across the entire week are listed below: 1. "Every adversity is by design" Indeed, one can only learn, develop and build resilience from all adversities faced in one's journey (and this is applicable to career and life). 2. "Diversity eliminates 'blind spots' and gaps we have in our view of the world". Creating a diverse and inclusive environment isn't just the 'right thing to do' but it certainly facilitates a unique holistic view and insight into the world. 3. "100% certainty only comes in hindsight" Quick and effective decision making is essential in taking advantage of live opportunities which may not last forever!
