💥Epic themes emerging from a full day’s coaching yesterday… 💡Five very different clients at various stages of their leadership journeys, three men and two women. With some common insights: ⭐️Career transition and exploration: three of the five are going through career transition, or contemplating new career paths. I am helping them find the clarity they need to find roles which align with their passions and values. ⭐️Self reflection and personal growth: four of the five want to: -Improve confidence -Find balance -Let go of self doubt -Embrace self acceptance I am helping them to gain conscious awareness of their own self talk, their own self image, their own subconscious paradigm, from a place of self compassion and non judgment, which allows them to calmly ask the big question: 💣“How are these beliefs about myself serving me, and which ones can I let go of?” 🚀Remember a belief is just an idea which at some point you have accepted to be true. 👶✨ From Labor Room to Leadership: Lessons Learned in Pushing Through Life's Challenges ✨👶 Let me take you back to the day my son was born – a wild ride that turned out to be a masterclass in leadership. Picture this: the doctor looks me square in the eye and drops some unexpected wisdom, "Stop screaming! You can't push and scream at the same time! It's impossible!" Little did I know, that nugget of truth would be my go-to life hack through the chaos of parenthood and corporate America. Turns out, true maturity is all about facing and conquering obstacles. Life's hurdles hit hard, just like those labor pains. Now, when doubt and insecurity creep in, I have to remember to silence the screams and make a deliberate choice to push forward. That lesson's been my guiding star. It taught me how to push through change for purpose, wade through uncertainty for peace and trudge through sorrow for joy. And I’m not saying I’ve never been stuck in a season of screaming. In our journeys, both personal and professional, we often find ourselves at crossroads, faced with the choice of which path to take next. Happy 2024🤩🤩🥳🥳🥳. January is slowly coming to a wrap. For some this is a beautiful thing because, the year started on a high note having achieved most of your 2023 goals. For some, the year started enveloped in anxiety having started it exactly like last year. All signs show that if something radical doesn't happen, this might just be a subtle repeat of 2023. You haven't seen anything to be excited about just yet. Guess what, serious opportunities are hiding in the 'what if' department of your mind; • What if you wrote those letters and actually pressed the 'send' button instead of storing them in your mind? • What if you started attending those meetings instead of just overhearing others talk about them? • What if you applied once and for all for that job that you've been procrastinating about? • What if you suffocated that friendship that leaves you too drained emotionally to focus on growth? • What if you called yourself out for 'not trying' out the uncomfortable, then getting mad about it? Regardless of what your 'what if' is, there is no better time to put yourself to task than now. It will be so worth the try as the year evolves. "What am I mastering?” Two years ago this week, I took a role in #leadership with MyEyeDr. It has been both challenging and fulfilling all at the same time. As I take time to reflect on my journey so far, I think about what gets in my way and how I can better myself to serve my team better each day. If there is one thing I’ve learned with leadership, it’s that it is imperative to recognize that where we put our attention, we master. If we put our attention in fear, self-pity, sorrow, doubt, and discouragement we'll be the master of them; if we put our attention towards love, upliftment, solutions, and betterment, this too we will master. Our attention is not a finite resource. We have the ability to shift and redirect it as we please. The choice lies within us. We hold the power to choose what we give our focus to. If our attention is consistently directed towards love— a life filled with compassion, understanding, and empathy, our relationships (both personal and work) thrive, and we become beacons of light for those around us. By focusing on upliftment, we constantly seek to elevate ourselves and those we encounter, creating a ripple effect of enrichment and growth. When our attention is dedicated to finding solutions and betterment, we embark on a journey of personal and collective improvement. We become problem solvers, approaching challenges with a determined spirit and an open mind. With such an attitude, even the most daunting obstacles become stepping stones towards success and fulfillment. Leaders— Are you consciously choosing to shift your attention towards upliftment, solutions, and betterment to unleash a power within you that transcends any limitations you may have imposed on yourself or by others? During my first week of being immersed in the vibrant energy of the USA, I was filled with both excitement and the occasional flutter of overwhelm. I have been in the US many times before but always as a holiday or the internship I did at the Office of Public Defenders in my final year of uni. The thought of making the most of this incredible experience can be exhilarating, yet it can also bring a sense of pressure—those moments when I whisper to myself, "I have to make the most of my energy and space while I'm here." Amidst this whirlwind of experiences and emotions, I've come to truly appreciate the significance of staying grounded. It's about creating a connection with myself and maintaining a sense of inner equilibrium, even when the world around me is in constant motion. I've found solace in maintaining some semblance of routine—hitting the gym, nourishing my body with timely meals, and prioritizing self-care. These seemingly small acts act as anchors, grounding me in the present moment. This reflection has brought to mind the parallel in leadership. Just as staying grounded keeps me centered amidst change, leaders too must remain rooted in their values and principles when navigating the ever-evolving landscapes of their roles. Effective leadership begins with self-awareness. Leaders who understand themselves, their strengths, and their values are better equipped to make decisions that align with their vision and purpose. Much like my journey, leadership is a dynamic dance. Leaders must adapt to change, embrace challenges, and yet, remain connected to their core values—the very essence that grounds them. Staying grounded also cultivates resilience. It's the ability to weather storms, face uncertainty, and still stand tall, unwavering in your commitment to your vision. Am I that good?   Have you heard the expression “self-made” so and so? A definition of a self-made person is someone who has become successful and rich through their own efforts, especially if they started life without money, education, or high social status.   The notion of the "self-made" success story persists, celebrating individuals who achieve great wealth and status through their own solitary efforts. Yet no one succeeds entirely alone. Behind every distinguished career or prosperous business are people who believe in you, guide you, and support your journey.   From parents to teachers to mentors, our development relies on wisdom and encouragement from others. Their diverse investments of time, advice, financial resources, or emotional backing create indispensable foundations. Through books, speeches, and more, those we may never meet can also profoundly shape our thinking and progress.   True, the driven individual must put in the hard work; without personal dedication, support from others goes unutilized. However, without guidance anchoring our efforts, we risk wasting energy on preventable mistakes or aimless trial-and-error. If we fail to learn from others, we perpetually reinvent the wheel rather than stand on the shoulders of giants who precede us. The next time you or another receives accolades for being “self-made,” take pause. Reflect on those who touched your life, clearing hurdles from your path directly or indirectly. The strengths we celebrate in successful people - perseverance, vision, skill - were once nascent and fragile, nourished by those around them. Their support transformed raw potential into executable ideas and plans.   Rather than ego, choose humility and gratitude. Honor those who paved the way by paying it forward to others. Share your wisdom through mentorship. Uplift promising talent that may one day eclipse your own.   Everyone lifts each other higher - that is true success. Be Thankful Every day! No matter how brilliant, passionate and well connected we may be, difficult times will come. We cannot wish, hope or pray them away; they’re part of life. How we carry ourselves and respond in difficult times determines not only the outcome but also how long that season of difficulty lasts. 2023 was one of the most challenging years of my career, here’s what got me through: • Staying calm in chaos. Be anxious for nothing. • Eyes fixed on the vision (not on the storm). • Cultivating relationships with strong leaders/ mentors. • Keep doing what you’re good at. Don’t be distracted or caught up. • Consistently show up as the best version of yourself. Authenticity will set you apart— no one can be you and that’s priceless. • Learn the lesson from the season. What are you supposed to learn or improve or change? To those going through a season of testing at work, may it make you better, not bitter.
