🌈 As we close out Pride Month, it’s important to talk about mental health. Pride is a celebration of joy and identity, but it’s also a time to recognize common mental health struggles within the LGBTQ+ community. 🌱 Being and embracing your authentic self is important for your mental health, but it can also be a difficult and uncomfortable process that may bring up feelings of anxiety, depression, stress, and hopelessness, especially for LGBTQ+ youth. 🩺 LGBTQ+ youth have a higher risk for poor mental health and experiencing acts of violence, such as: · Bullying · Harassment · Physical violence · Sexual violence 🌟 If you are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety, or suicide, you aren’t alone, and there are many helpful resources available. Talk to a Kelsey-Seybold provider about your mental health today. 📲 If you need counseling services sooner than an appointment can be made and you live in Texas, you can speak with a trained counselor by calling or texting 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Disclaimer: If you or someone you know has thoughts about suicide, seek help right away. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the closest emergency room. #Pride #PrideMonth #Pride2024 #HealthCare

Ending Conversion Therapy: Mental health providers, let's delve into understanding the harmful practice of Conversion Therapy. This outdated and discredited approach aims to change an individual's sexual orientation or gender identity. By promoting harmful stereotypes and fostering shame, it poses serious risks to the mental well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. To truly support our clients, it's essential to recognize the severe impact this practice can have on their mental health. From increased rates of depression to heightened anxiety and even suicidal ideation, the consequences are alarming. Our commitment to #EndConversionTherapy is not just about rejecting this harmful practice but actively fostering affirming and supportive therapy environments. Let's stand united in advocating for #LGBTQAffirmativeCare and creating spaces that prioritize the mental well-being of all individuals. #MentalHealthProviders, education and awareness are the first steps toward creating meaningful change.

Protecting the mental health of teens is vital to prevention work. Mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, are correlated to the likelihood of using drugs. We can all contribute to the mental well-being of young people in our community: •Create opportunities for teens to connect with trusted adults, such as mentorship/coaching programs • Facilitate opportunities for activities that allow for physical and/or artistic expression, such as sports, dance, or theatre programs. • Ensure inclusive and respectful environments for people of color and LGBTQ+ teens, who are disproportionately at risk for mental health problems. #DFCAadvocates #DFCAmentalhealth #teens #drugfree #teachers #educators #druguseprevention #healthyteens #safeteens #drugfreecommunities #peerpressure #communitiesagainstdrugs #parentsagainstdrugs #makinggoodchoices #saynotodrugs #positivereinforcement #drugfreeclubs #youthdrugprevention #drugfreeschoolprograms #DrugFreeClubsofAmerica

Registered Dietitian | Specializing in Mental Health and Addiction Nutrition | Sharing Science-Backed Insights to Enhance Wellness
Happy Pride Month! Coming right after Mental Health Awareness Month, now seems like a good time to remind everyone that gender-affirming care and providing safe spaces to all members of the LGBTQ+ community can quite literally be life-saving. As a dietitian, have you sought out CEUs specifically to learn how to care for these special populations? Are you aware of the increased risk of mental health struggles and body image disturbances that can come from both inside and outside of the community? If you're a member of the Academy, there is some training available there. Many eating disorder facilities have free resources as well. DEI training as a whole is important. Outside of CEUs, who are you following on social media? Have you intentionally sought out diverse creators? If not, why? #pridemonth #pride2024 #diversitymatters #mentalhealthmatters #dietitian #mentalhealthnutrition
