ICYMI: Two new studies at CRT - Cardiovascular Research Technologies 2024 focused on the long-term impact of choosing TAVR with a Medtronic valve when low-risk patients present with severe aortic stenosis.

🫀🩻 Positive clinical evidence supporting advanced #intravascular image-guided percutaneous coronary interventional (PCI) procedures versus traditional #angiography-guided PCI. A comprehensive recent study published in The Lancet showcased positive clinical data from almost 16,000 PCI procedures across 22 different sites over a 13 year period utilizing either intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) or optical coherence tomography (OCT). The data illustrated that the image-guided PCI option offered a sizeable reduction in the patient’s risk of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, any myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization, stent thrombosis, and all-cause mortality versus traditional angiography-guided procedures. “With these results, we now need to shift from performing more studies to determine whether intravascular imaging is beneficial, to increasing efforts to overcome the remaining impediments to the routine use of OCT and IVUS, including better training of physicians and staff and increasing reimbursement.
