I'm excited to share my recent experience developing Continuous Deployment (CD) processes using AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline! - AWS CodeBuild :- Automated the build process for our application, ensuring each commit is tested and packaged. - AWS CodeDeploy :- Streamlined the deployment process, allowing us to deploy new versions quickly and reliably. - AWS CodePipeline :- Created an automated workflow that integrates build, test, and deploy phases, improving our deployment efficiency. Why CI/CD ? CI/CD automates the software release process, allowing teams to deploy new features, bug fixes etc efficiently. It reduces manual errors, provides immediate feedback, and ensures a consistent deployment process. I also faced several challenges along the way :- 1. Starting the Application on Different Servers :- To start the Go application on different servers (staging and production running on EC2 Instance) with different environment variables, I created two system services on each server with the required environment variables. I enabled these services to run the application and ensure that if the instance is restarted, these services can automatically restart my Go application without any manual intervention. 2. Connecting the RDS Instance with EC2 Instance :- Initially, I created the RDS instance with the wrong configuration. My manager, Shaswat Kar, helped me correct the configuration and successfully connect the RDS instance with EC2. 3. Deploying Builds Due to Insufficient Policies :- I was unable to deploy builds to the instance due to insufficient policies. To address this issue, I took the help of Google and ChatGPT and added the required policies to deploy application with any failure. This was an amazing experience working with AWS services, and it taught me a lot about automation and the power of AWS in creating efficient deployment pipelines.
