I first met Lee about 12 years ago after starting my healthcare consultancy focused on risk analysis. During that time, I was the founding host of HIPAA Chat, a popular weekly radio show (now we'd call it a podcast). I hosted the show for about two years, and Lee was my favorite guest. She was smart, funny, extremely informed, engaging, and empathetic. We've kept in touch over the years, and my admiration for her has only grown.
I heartily endorse Lee for the ISC2 Board of Directors. Based on my observations of Lee over the years, here's what I think we can expect from her as an ISC2 Board Member:
*Advocacy - Lee is a strong advocate for education and cybersecurity. She could have been a highly successful partner in a BigLaw firm, but she's passionate about the vital work that government and non-profit sectors do to make us all safer and more secure. A board membership would give her an even bigger platform for that advocacy work.
* Principles - Lee believes in both the rule of law and the law of rules, consistently conducting her decision-making and professional life by conferring with her First Principles. I believe Lee would perform her duties as a board member diligently and with a commitment to first principles, her own as well as the ISC2 Ethics Canons.
* Empathy - Lee has been promoting privacy and security for well over a decade. She understands the pain individuals feel when their data is compromised, as well as the many challenges privacy, security, and compliance professionals face every day to make the world a safer place.
* Availability - Lee is busy—just look at her LinkedIn profile. But over the last decade, whenever I needed her counsel or perspective, she never said "No." She might say she could help in a few days or weeks, but never "No." Despite being professional acquaintances, I sincerely believe Lee will make herself available to ISC2 members if elected. She will want to know what they are thinking and will take appropriate action to help the members and the Board.
In summary, I believe Lee’s advocacy, principles, empathy, and availability make her an excellent candidate for the ISC2 Board of Directors.
