Many people believe refugees come to the U.S. for a better life, but that's not the case. Refugees are often forced to flee their homes due to threats to their lives and safety, usually from war or persecution. It is often a matter of life and death for these families. Even when they reach the U.S., finding housing can be tough, despite having the means to support themselves. At Compound Impact, we work with partner resettlement agencies to provide homes for refugee families.  With a safe place to call home, these families can start anew. The end of 2023 saw more than 110 million displaced persons worldwide, an increase of more than 1.6 million from 2022. This means that 1 in 73 people are displaced in world, with 9 in 10 living in low- and middle-income countries. There has also been a 3% increase in refugees, taking the total to more than 36 million. (Information source – UNHCR) Durable solutions are few and far between, with only a few experiencing this reality. Are we supporting countries? Thoughts? Marathon of narrations? Political parties? We are helping our kind live peacefully. The ones who are the most vulnerable, the ones who depend on us to breath, the ones who can stand but can’t walk, we provide them the strength to walk as long as our strength allows us. We are their supporting sticks. Without the stick an old woman can walk but for how long? Our shoulders are always ready to support our kind individually as well as united. According to the UN Refugee Agency, an estimated 117.3 million people worldwide, or 1.5% of the global population, are forcibly displaced. This includes 37.6 million refugees and 68.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs). Displacement due to conflict, persecution, and climate change has doubled in the last decade, with 47 million displaced children worldwide. Climate-related hazards caused over 50% of displacements in 2022, and 60% of displaced people live in climate-vulnerable countries. Each of these numbers represents a person with a story, a dream, and a hope to one day be in a safer and better place.
