As a KY basketball fan, I'm in mourning now, after the embarrassing loss to Oakland in the NCAA tourney last night. I think it's time that Coach Cal truly looks in the mirror and evaluates how the game has changed, and what it takes to be successful in 2024. KY was absolutely dominant 2010-2017, and since then, there has been plenty of talent, but very poor results in SEC and NCAA tournament play. KY did change their offense this year to a more modern system, and it was highly successful. However, their defense was terrible, and it cost them success in the postseason. What else needs to be done for success in the future? It's very difficult when you've been successful doing things a certain way for a long time, like Coach Cal, to change and evolve when things change around you. COVID was a huge environment change, and since then, the hiring landscape has change dramatically. There are often more roles available than qualified people, and employers are fighting an uphill battle in many industries. No longer can you simply post a job, and get all the candidates you need. Posting on social media is NOT fun for me, and I don't enjoy it. However, when finding talent is one of my main responsibilities, I realized I needed to do more to find the best people. I started posting 1x a week (sometimes 1x every 2 weeks), and tried to share a mix of education, others accomplishments, and jobs that we have available. After about 6 months, I began to see a big difference, as people started reaching out to me who were interested in learning more about our jobs, company, and industry. What began as a thing that was uncomfortable for me, became highly beneficial. I even attracted many candidates outside my region, who I was able to pass on to other hiring managers. We've really focused on creating a strong culture, where people enjoy working with each other, and provide opportunities for advancement, which helps us prevent turnover. Also, by creating a "PULL" scenario, where people reach out to me via Linkedin, in combination with other "PUSH" avenues (job ads, etc), we've been able to find people that help our business succeed, and provide them a great career path. Don't sleep on Linkedin people, it is a highly valuable, free platform, that allows you to make connections and find great people. You may not "like" posting, but you need to....besides, the best things in life usually involve us being uncomfortable and fighting through that to grow our skills and network. rehabmedical.com/careers - check us out! #improvelives #medicaldevicesales P.S. We're hiring for an ATP Specialist that covers the Columbus/Cincinnati/Dayton areas. This person is highly experienced in our field, and is proficient in working with high-end neuro and peds patients. DM me if you have interest in learning more. We provide a strong base salary and bonus plan...

From the article: "At what stage are you in your career? Does it feel like you're slowing down while the work—and your colleagues—are racing ahead?" My wife and I had a similar conversation the other day. Would your doctor be someone fresh out of medical school up to date on the latest techniques but limited real world experience or would you prefer your doctor be decades out of school with lots of real world experience but far removed from the latest teachings? I think the author gives some great points on how to avoid be left behind.

The Iceberg analogy. We all know it but how often do we reflect on it? My in-laws recently took a trip overseas and sent the picture below. Pretty cool! It almost looks fake. But it got me thinking ... I see a lot of professionals in Athletics walking around with smiles on their faces but inwardly are exhausted, stuck and afraid to ask for help. And it's only October! We often hear how lucky we are to have roles in sports because so many people want to be there. True. We are lucky! It can be a fun and rewarding profession. AND, we're human. The novelty of working in sports isn't the reality. These roles can be exhausting and leave you questioning your sanity. You don't always see outside of the box. What's hidden underneath the surface for you right now? Where do you need support? Many of you are wearing multiple hats with little resource OR you haven't received proper training in the first place. Don't tread alone. While this post wasn't meant to be a sales pitch, I recognize institutions need trusted help. Part of my role at ADVANCE is to equip folks like yourself and eliminate burdens so you can focus your attention elsewhere. As much as I love change, I've seldom asked myself how much change is too much change all at once! In the last half of 2023, life came at me fast and challenged me to embrace the change associated with embarking on the MBA experience and it has been rewarding!
