How Will Consulting Change in the Era of AI? Key challenges: 1. Complex Projects: Bigger, more expensive projects often add little value. 2. I recall a time that the toilets at one of my prior employers was refurbished. The builders had put the sink above the urinal, my immediate observation was that the builders must have been management consultants too as whilst it may have appeared to make the whole process more efficient they had left the hand towels across the room. Having seen the excellent episode of John Oliver about one of them https://lnkd.in/ehmVsZ_Y It unfortunately confirmed my suspicion about their true value add. An example is the unbelievable pay rises that CEOs obtained last year and what started the divergence of pay as between CEOs and regular employees. I go back to the same question, given how many graduates there are from top business schools, is there really such a shortage of talent which justifies the pay packages of these people 🤨 but somehow McKinsey managed to convince everyone that it was ok. Not to say that their expertise is only ever used for evil or that there isn't a place for them, just that the usual profit drivers for them leads to sub optimal results in society.

Looks like we've reached the end of the Covid Consulting Boom and changes are on the horizon: "Consulting itself will have to change, because technology can today do so much at the lower end of the pay scale. AI can put together a good-enough PowerPoint presentation or research document, knocking out a lot of what freshman consultants used to do. Meanwhile, there’s more competition at the top, with all sorts of boutique risk analysis firms and sector experts vying for a slice of the advisory business." With the rise of #AI, traditional #consulting work might not have superior advantages comparing with the knowledgeable and mighty #LLM models. Maybe we could see AI-assisted consulting soon. But will the big corporates buy it?
