Critical to have the one on one partner mentor and associate liason. A firm with a real interest in the summer student will have 20 minutes with the partner every day and at least a one hour session every week. Every summer student interested in business law should be on two deal teams at all times. Show you care.
We are thrilled to welcome our 2024 class of summer associates to the firm this week! Across our U.S. offices, Davis Polk’s summer associates will contribute to real client work, be mentored by a partner and an associate liaison, and complete immersive training programs, among many other valuable professional experiences. They will also enjoy an active calendar full of fun cultural and social events. We look forward to a fantastic summer!

Ready for the Superbowl? From all of tonight’s event-related content one could read these days, this is the piece that struck me most. Taking the entire staff -including interns, of course- to Vegas is a great way to acknowledge their hard work and contributions. After all, an organization's success is a collective effort, and celebrating as a team is crucial in building the culture that got you there, and that will guide you through those times in which you don´t make it to your own Superbowl. #teamworkmatters

A transactional lawyer with an entrepreneurial mindset, providing legal services to clients at the intersection of Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship and helping them pursue sustainable outcomes.
WHY IT WILL TAKE “YOU” TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Before we began dining at our interns’ dinner last week, I asked everyone to engage with persons sitting next to them and get to know the person better. The idea was to get everyone to have conversations which may lead to the discovery of something new about the person sitting next to them. To achieve this, I ordered a seating arrangement which placed seeming friends apart. At the end of the 2 hour session, I asked for feedback about what each got to know about persons sitting next to him or her. The surprise outcome was that many did not engage in any conversation with the person sitting to their left, right or facing them directly despite the specific instruction and opportunity created by the seating arrangement. What this illustrated which I reiterated to the team was that, life one way or the other may give you opportunities. But, never is life going to get you to act on them. It will take YOU and only YOU to realize the opportunity and leverage it. And each day, many of us are presented with opportunities, opportunities we do nothing about. But as we begin a new week, I urge you to apply yourself a bit more, recognize opportunities and ACT. It will take no one except YOU to make a difference. #OnlyGod #ItsAboutYou #Act #MakeAMove #BeTheDifference

I've always struggled to explain Scarf in a sentence or two. Putting together this report, which highlights our most recent 10-week seasonal program, is a reminder why. The program has so may layers to it, and honestly, this report doesn't even do it justice. There are so many moments of joy and connection that happen between the trainees, mentors and Scarf team during a season, that are impossible to truly capture and share on paper. I have no doubt these moments are a big part of why graduates report greatly increased confidence and belonging after doing the program. If you've dined at a Scarf Dinner, you might have been lucky enough to see to see what I'm talking about. Anyway, please take a look at our impact report - this is the first time we've tried to comprehensively capture a whole program in a document of this nature, so let me know what you think! Is this an effective way to get a handle on what goes on at Scarf, beyond our dinners? I hope so!
We're excited to share the Impact Report for our Autumn Scarf '23 program, which ran at Cassette in Kensington from March - May. The report contains lots of details about what goes on during and after a Scarf program, highlighting the 456 hours of training and mentoring provided, as well as the 292 hours of paid work experience through Scarf Dinners. We're incredibly chuffed to share that 4 out of 7 graduates from this program are already in jobs, just 2.5 months since graduating. All graduates can access 6 months of post-program support, so we're still working with most of this cohort to facilitate more paid work experience and practical job-seeking support. We couldn't do this work and create so much social impact without so many partnerships with incredible businesses and orgs. A huge thank you to Assemble, Five Senses Coffee, Unico Zelo, Stomping Ground Brewing Co., Bathtub Gin Co, Campari Group, Worksmith, Home Grown Drinks, Daylesford & Hepburn Mineral Springs Co., Starward Whisky, Maidenii, Loafer Bread, Mount Zero Olives, Garden State Hotel, Pullman Hotels & Resorts, Accor, Accor Heartist Solidarity, Bank Australia, posBoss, Square, Typsy, Common State, The Good Plate and Complete Hospitality Training RTO #3722. Massive high fives to the individuals who made this happen: Lauren Stokes, Neil Baxendale, Mir Bugti, Laura Neville, Jenny Polack, Fraser McNally, Ingrid Langtry, Sophie Tilley, Amber Goedegebuure, Olivia Collins, Rieko Indra, Shaun de Vries, all of our amazing mentors and trainers, our longterm (and new!) diners, and most of all, the trainees for putting your trust into Scarf and showing such enormous talent and dedication during the program! LEGENDS! You can download the report here: https://lnkd.in/gnesVmfK

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity," said Seneca. It is tricky, tireless work to ensure a #familybusiness has the governance needed to preserve family harmony, AND run a great, enduring business for generations. It's a lot lot easier to align when the business is small, because those who needs to know are either in the break room or at the kitchen table. When you have grown into the #1 Refrigerated Tea Brand in America and the fastest growing lemonade like we have at Milo's Tea Company, Inc., it takes a thriving ecosystem of remarkable coaches, advisors, independent directors, and thoughtful TEAm members to drive exceptional governance. One big piece of governance is education and succession planning for NextGens and spouses that married in. So, when we were all in #Birmingham for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, we hosted a Family Meeting with owners, spouses, and kids led by advisors and key TEAmmates. What do you do at a Family Meeting? Business, first, of course. We educate about our company, industry, and governance. This meeting, we enjoyed a plant tour of our #Homewood manufacturing and distribution center. Then, we met about the duties and responsibilities of ownership. We acknowledged that the duties for family members to interact with the business are even greater that other associates. And, we shared the reality that it's not just going to be "inherit," there has to be merit, hard work, and contribution to be ready, and to overcome assumptions that DNA got you a job, an internship, or an opportunity. Next up, had to be a little fun too so we headed to Topgolf for a some healthy competition on the course. (Yes, I lost 🤣 ). It's important to talk to kids early about family business because this is a very long journey. I'm not sure what will happen with my kiddos. But I am sure that it's the right thing to educate loudly, repeatedly, and early-on that with great opportunity comes even greater responsibility. If you're not ready when that opportunity comes, it will fly past you, especially if it is on a rocket ship like Milo's. What do you do to help yourself or others be game day ready if that opportunity comes? #BrewingALegacy #DrinkMilos Carlton Wallwork
