The Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games in Paris will be the quadrennial chance for athletes representing the United States to win medals on the biggest global stage possible — and it comes at a time where the ability to chase Olympic legend status can be hard financially, which has led to a revamping of how national governing bodies are allocated resources in the post-pandemic landscape.

As this new initiative gathers momentum and we are preparing to deliver the first event in the series I am looking to the LinkedIn network for help to share this opportunity. I am really enjoying working with NGB's and key stakeholders on delivering this, the first, stage in this process facilitating a Paralympic sporting journey for new and existing disabled athletes. Discover your Paralympic Potential: ParalympicsGB’s search for new talent ParalympicsGB has launched a new national initiative set up to identify the next generation of Paralympic athletes, with the first of a series of Discover Days taking place in Middlesborough in November.    The campaign, called Discover your Paralympic Potential, will see come and try sports sessions take place across the country in the build-up to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with opportunities to take part in a multitude of summer and winter Paralympic sports and meet with Paralympic medallists. Each session will be geared towards different disabilities with the first event taking place on 4th November at Middlesborough Sports Village, followed by London Olympic Park on 25th November and 10th December at Birmingham University. These events will be for anyone with a visual impairment. Campaign manager and retired Paralympian Ben Quilter, who won judo bronze at London 2012, believes the programme will not only be critical in unearthing new sporting talent, but will provide a fantastic opportunity for disabled people to discover which sport is best for them. Quilter explains: “The Discover your Paralympic Potential programme is the first step for people to find out what their future Paralympic sport could be. Suspension of the Paralympics Committee of India gives the nation a bad name globally. Paralympics Committee of India stands suspended. In a late evening development the Sports Ministry has suspended PCI for issues of non compliance and for not conducting elections on time. On the one hand India wins 111 medals at the Para Asian Games and is expected to double its medal count at the Paris Paralympics. On the other the PCI gets suspended. In all this the athlete loses out. With the shooting World Cup scheduled in New Delhi in March, which is also the last qualifying event for Paris, the athlete is bound to feel deflated. Sponsors will now become jittery as to why should they support the event and the athlete will find it hard to push themselves knowing their apex body stands suspended. Indian Paralympic sport was turning a corner. See the medal haul in Tokyo-19. From 4 in Rio it was a watershed. Paris is expected to be double of Tokyo. When the sport has momentum, to hear news like the suspension of the PCI is a real blow. India looks bad. With the world watching us, we look discredited. That’s where the problem is. Athletes will suffer and the national image will take a beating because of things that could well have been avoided. This suspension is a stark reminder how governance is still a massive issue. There is no easy fix. If we thought bringing athletes will solve everything it doesn’t. What needs to happen is we nurture a group of athletes , progressive sports administrators etc towards taking on larger roles and responsibilities. It can’t just be an experiment. This is a Process which will require a couple of Olympic cycles. It is important we start now to create enough quality human capital accross all levels of sport. Only then the environment will change. Having one CEO in an environment which hasn’t seen a corporate style of governance will only create friction. Work needs to be done slowly but urgently- we need to work on change accross the system and that needs patience and persistence in equal measure. For the moment through one hopes the shooting World Cup which has 56 countries participating goes off smooth. One hopes sponsors don’t withdraw ahead of Paris. One hopes athletes don’t find it hard to make the qualifying events. And finally one hopes elections are conducted asap and this mess resolved. India deserves better and Paralympic athletes more so. Olympic Wrestler Grace Bullen demonstrated her famous helicopter throw on yours truly, and I am now 100% certain that she will secure a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris 🇳🇴 I am proud to announce that KONGSBERG will extends its partnership with the SUMMIT project with Olympiatoppen, to include both the 2024 and 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. We have been a partner of SUMMIT 2024 for two years, and we are now extending our partnership for a new four-year period. What these athletes and KONGSBERG have in common is that we compete at the top of our fields internationally. The margins are small. To win gold, you need talent, dedication and an almost infinite amount of hours training. We’re happy to contribute to giving Grace and the other athletes a community of sponsors, enabling them to focus on performing in the Olympics. Olympiatoppen and the Norwegian Confederation of Sports launched SUMMIT 2024 in 2022 as a joint effort between businesses, the public and athletes. The goal was to lift ten selected sports to medals and success at the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris in 2024. The project includes 130 athletes in total, fighting for tickets to the Olympics and Paralympics, and medals when they get there. KONGSBERG is one of three partner companies in SUMMIT 2024, and the first partner company to sign for SUMMIT 2028. Our contributions go towards funding equipment, coaches, and training camps in pursuit of marginal gains. The goal is a national Norwegian boost towards success at the Summer Olympics. Visually impaired runner Libby Clegg and Paralympic guide Chris Clarke ran wrist to wrist, perfectly synchronized, and won gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the Paralympic Games in 2016, breaking the Paralympic world record! Interestingly, Clarke didn’t make it for England’s national team and couldn’t compete in the 2016 Olympics, but he made a comeback by partnering with a winner in the 2016 Paralympic. He and Clegg trained for only two months together, and he helped Clegg see what she couldn't see. The takeaway? Winners need opportunity.
