Both the Olympic and Paralympic teams will wear the same design, produced by Asics. Considering the significant temperature fluctuations expected in Paris, the design focuses on reducing humidity inside the garment. It incorporates mesh material strategically for effective ventilation. The environmental impact has been minimized by using recycled materials, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Another women's kit after-thought.... This weekend's champions league final in Bilbao had 50,827 fans watch Barcelona's thrilling 2-0 win over Lyon. Showcasing the best of women's sport. Alexia Putellas came off the bench to secure the win, before mirroring the celebrations of Brandi Chastain in '99 and Chloe Kelly in '22. Putellas can be seen wearing two compression type garments on her upper half. One is of course her sports bra, but the second a vest worn to house her GPS device from Wimu. Women at the very top of the game are wearing three layers of clothing, where two could easily achieved. So, why are the top manufacturers not integrating GPS technology into their Sports Bras for their players? Or if they are, why are the players not using it? Are manufacturers still playing catch up to the needs of elite Women's sport? Recently, MAAREE presented our sports bras (which include a GPS pouch) to a top side in Europe, followed by a kit presentation by a leading sportswear manufacturer. When no sports bras were presented in the collection, and questioned by the club, the manufacturer stated 'we did not realise you would require sports bras.' Nike has released controversial USA track and field kit for the Paris Olympics 2024. Continuing a debate that has been going on for as long as we can remember 🤷🏽♂️ Current and former athletes aren’t holding back their comments on this kit release. Claiming that the women’s design is: - Unnecessarily revealing. - Offering sexist undertones. - Not practical to a woman’s performance. This has been an ongoing conversation for years. With many debates and rage over the revealing outfits for female Olympians. Especially in the volleyball and gymnastics categories. So, while we see steps in the right direction… Such as New Zealand's ruling to allow women to wear shorts or leggings over their leotards. Many feel like Nike has taken two steps back. But Nike is letting all athletes know: The women’s teams will have multiple uniform options available. In fact, the track and field kits for men and women include nearly 50 apparel pieces. As well as 12 competition styles for specific events. This released kit is just one of the many options. It is important that athletes have a choice when it comes to attire. They need to feel: - Pride. - Confidence. - Comfortable. To perform their best. Hopefully, all athletes choose the kit attire that will suit their unique needs for the Olympics. P.S. I am saddened to read in today's FT about the faltering effort to turn around of the world's largest sportswear makers, Nike. I am a huge fan of this iconic brand that has been clothing athletes for decades. However, I can relate to this story. I am often complimented on my tennis outfits and I recognise that many of them were bought many years ago. My efforts to buy new gear from the same brands more recently have not been successful. As someone who plays 5-6 tennis matches a week, I am looking for a combination of: (1) Looking stylish on court; (2) A flattering and comfortable fit; (3) Good quality fabric. Is this too much to ask for?? Apparently so. Many outfits seem to only look good on professional tennis stars like Emma Raducanu. In the UK around 10% of us play tennis - yup, around 7m Brits, and only a few hundred thousands are professional athletes. An average tennis club member is a senior professional, semi-retired or retired in their 30s to 60s. It should be easy to figure out that style, quality and comfort are important considerations when choosing an outfit or shoes, shouldn't it? It's time sports brands recognised who their real customers are! If they do so and target their products better, I am sure their efforts will be rewarded. #businessandmanagement
