Pan, “I’m working in a warehouse, All my applications say that I lack relevant experience” Last week, a graduate told me: I have nothing relevant to show in the warehouse job We delved into his resume Most tasks were about: → Picking and packing → Ensure orders get delivered on time → Handling the forklift Sure, these are the surface-level tasks he did every day. I asked him to write any other tasks that were related to →Stock control →Reporting and analysis →Managing stakeholder issues He paused and realised “Yes, of course, there’s plenty I can think of” One example was a report he did to show the high-moving products. And the result was that the product never ran out of stock for 2 years. Was this on his resume? No Why is it important? Companies share universal goals, some are: → Reducing costs, improving profits and operational efficiency You might think your part-time job doesn’t contribute to them But it does in some way! Relook at your resume and come up with tasks that align with these goals. Show Employers what value you’ve generated. And what you can bring to the table even with no related experience. Is it acceptable to completely remove most details of past jobs, including job title and role responsibilities, when trying to find a temporary much lower paying role? It feels like being honest is hurting my ability to even get a reply. People need to stop assuming, but they will always assume, and always have biases, so maybe it is time to lower myself to others' standards and "game" the system. Not exactly something I want to do, so I'm thinking, maybe if I just not say that I've been a "software engineer" for X past jobs, maybe one of these store clerk type roles will actually respond. #advice #jobsearch #questions #careerchange
