The below 2 charts are very important to understand the demographics of India for a D2C brand selling high AOV products It is interesting to see on which categories the various socio-economic classes spend their hard-earned income. The narrative for rising consumption in India is well understood. Young demographics, rising incomes, and higher aspirations are leading not just to higher consumption but to premiumization too. No wonder we have seen a structural re-rating in FMCG and Consumer Discretionary sectors over the past two decades. The key question now is which other sectors can see such a re-rating over the next two decades? Will the narrative related to manufacturing play out? Or will it be Services? Or both?
