What does the Bulgarian branch of Language Bear celebrate today?    Every year on the 1st of March, the Bulgarians celebrate a centuries-old tradition - the day of Baba Marta (baba means ‘Grandma’ and Marta - ‘March’), related to sending off the winter and welcoming the approaching spring. Apart from exchanging the so-called “Martenitsas” – decorative pieces of red and white twisted threads, symbolising health and happiness, we sweetened our days with a whole bunch of themed cupcakes.

We have something very similar in Romania, as well. We exchange "mărțișoare", which are all sorts of small decorations with red and white threads that we usually put on our clothes, on the chest area.
