🌿✨ Exciting Update in Sustainable Innovation!✨🌿 Yesterday, Kevin Möller and I visited Block Bio Innovationen’s Carbo-FORCE biochar facility, and we were truly amazed by their pioneering work in negative emissions tech. The concept is simple: Instead of releasing CO2 from biomass into the atmosphere (e.g., by burning or decomposing), it's permanently stored in biochar, which has various eco-friendly applications like soil fertilization. 🌍 While reducing (corporate) emissions is vital, exploring innovative solutions is equally important on our journey to net zero. According to a review by Roe et al. (2019), biochar can mitigate 0.3-4.9 GtCO2e/yr globally, making it a game-changer when applied locally. To put it in perspective, Germany's total CO2e emissions in 2022 were ~0.75 GtCO2e. 🌟 Grateful for the invaluable insights shared by Steffen Block and Mathis Block during our visit. A massive day here at 8090 Industries as portfolio company Cemvita Inc. makes history - 1 Billion gallons - the largest offtake agreement for Sustainable Aviation Fuel the world has ever seen and inked by United Airlines, all made from upcycing CO2, not agriculture feedstock. And at current jet fuel prices: this would represent $10B in top line revenue. This is big, Texas big! Amena H. Saiyid from Cipher News breaks the story. This announcement is a part of a global effort underway led by Cemvita Inc. to upcycle tens of millions of tons of CO2 to produce SAF across other geographic regions and airlines: Next stop is the middle east and Asia. Stay tuned, this is just the beginning of plenty more to come. 🤫 Best captured by United Airlines: The aviation sector is responsible for about 10% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. and 2 to 3% of global emissions. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a catch-all term for lower-emitting liquid fuels (usually 60 to 70% fewer greenhouse gas emissions) that can replace or be blended with traditional and dirtier jet fuels made from kerosene in jet engines. However, Most SAF is made with a mixture of water- and land-intensive vegetable oils, waste fats and cooking oils that are in limited supply, resource heavy and subject to price volatility. Cemvita Inc.'s uses engineered microbes to convert a widely abundant waste source in CO2 gathered from industrial plants and a mix of wastes into jet fuel offer a more reliable and sustainable feedstock for clean jet fuel.
