As we continue to push for progress, let's amplify diverse voices, celebrate diverse talents, and champion inclusivity at every level. Together, we can make soccer a truly global game where everyone feels they belong.

With the NHL backtracking on overt displays of #pride, the whole debacle highlights how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in sports is more than just flying rainbows. It's disappointing to see the NHL backtracking and undoing a decade's worth of progress in promoting and advancing DEI in professional hockey. What's surprising about this whole mess is how the NHL spendt a decade on promoting DEI outward, but without taking the action to embody the values of what DEI represents into the culture of it's own organization. So when players, coaches, and teams started to question and pushback against the rainbow jerseys and pride tape, it exposed a major flaw in the NHL's DEI efforts by highlighting that they never bothered to make it an integral part of the team and organizational culture. Allyship in this regard isn't about showing rainbow pride, it's about taking the time to educate on why DEI matters, building DEI into the team culture, and standing your ground when the bullies and critics come out. NHL's backtracking here shows that it is no ally.
