Study design matters. The image attached shows the hierarchy of evidence for study designs. (Please see the reference at the bottom - it's from a fantastic book called 𝐺𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐿𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒: 𝐴 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝐸𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒-𝐵𝑎𝑠𝑒𝑑 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑃𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑒. 3𝑟𝑑 𝑒𝑑: 2015.) When evaluating studies and papers used in clinical decision making, please make sure you take this into consideration. A well-designed randomized placebo controlled trial (RCT) is more applicable to the general population with similar baseline characteristics than a case report or clinical experience (a.k.a. anecdotal evidence). However, a meta-analysis of several poorly designed RCT's is what we call "garbage in, garbage out". A meta-analysis is only as good as the studies that go into it. There is a lot more to consider when evaluating literature. Stay tuned for more in the near future. #evidencebasedmedicine #evidencebasedpractice #literaturereview #clinicalresearch

Attended a webinar regarding the "Abraham Wald & Missing Data" Clinical Research Workshop with @Dr. Ben M. W. Illigens, Scientific Director of Clinical Research (M.Sc.), has introduced a related topic of clinical research in this workshop with a case study and even though I was a beginner, I had a good understanding of the subjects of examples, kinds of missing data, and the fundamental distinctions between MCAR, MAR, and MNAR as well as the Survivor Bias Principal and Funnel points, as well as how to evaluate data Thankyouu @Dr. Ben M. Open access article about the research to practice gap. Check it out! It was wonderful to be part of the creation of this content. Learning about implementation science makes me so excited about the potential for dialogue between SLP researchers and those working in a clinical capacity. When we shrink the research to practice gap, conduct research within real-world environments, or use research to answer real-world clinical questions, our clients benefit!
