Nailed it! Legendary will.i.am is saying the quiet part out loud about AI: "Investments in AI to make machines smarter - there's no limit to the amount of money that's been pumped into it. The investment in HI to make humans smarter, human intelligence, that's just sad" - William James Adams aka will.i.am He later added: "It's sad that we're going to live in a world right around the corner where machines will be more articulate, analytical, critical thinking, banter ability, contextual, deep understanding, while we have resorted to short tweets, emojis, memes, and stickers to communicate". We should invest 100x more in Human Intelligence. P.S. for more interesting stuff, check out 🔔linas.substack.com🔔, it's the only newsletter you need for all things when Finance meets Technology. I’m all for AI, but I’m seeing some service examples, hmmm. I recently stayed at Extended Stay hotel, the whole hotel is an AI computer system. Management controls ev behind the computer system wall w/o employees having any discretion. Have an issue, forget about it. It’s also an easy way for the power to go from customer is always right, to that’s what the computer says. It’s a good debate and discussion. Very non customer service.

Although I agree on this as a general statement. I would to add that AI has boosted the Edutech industry exponentially. I’ve worked on recent projects that allow special needs students learn in multiple ways that are more engaging and accessible than ever. They’re also cheap to distribute given the mobile penetration and internet penetration globally is rather high. What does it mean? It means if you’re going through a lot at and can’t attend school you can learn from home, if you have learning difficulties if you’re unable to afford School fees/ books or simply dont have access to one you can learn by engaging in video, chat, voice and gaming activities which is all remarkably simple to use.

It makes me sad to think of the wonderful mindful activities humans are passing onto AI for future generations because they can't be bothered to sit still for a while. It's one of the reasons why ASMR videos have become popular. It's not just the sounds. People are craving the times when people sit down to do one task at a time without distractions.

Ironically, training a machine is easy.

I see investments in AI as strategic investments in humans. As of 2024, about 67% of the world's population, or approximately 5.4 billion people, have access to the internet. (https://datareportal.com/reports/digital-2024-deep-dive-how-the-world-goes-online) for them, AI provides unprecedented opportunities to learn. For the rest 33%, it provides the hope to access such opportunities in the future.

The truth here is more profound then meets the eye. Its not the technology holding us back right now to reap benefits in society from Tech invention. Already in the 1940ies Joseph Schumpeter made the distinction between invention, innovation and diffusion. Humans are simply not Data and AI Ready. All the time we confuse invention with innovatiom and diffusion... we need to invest to get to diffusion. Invention is not the end game... in this light... The new buzz word in AI..... Agentic.... The way we design AI systems with an Agentic approach. For diffusion....We must first figure out how to organise human agency to not screw up artificial agency.... HI is the only way to unlock safe value from AI... Olga Fink

Hmm, interesting and fair point, but I think it misses something. I know people who can send a one word text, and based on who sent it, when etc the receiver will know exactly what it means, the information density we can transmit, with just a nod, will be a few years before the machines catch up.

At least AI will never have a soul and intuition.
