Chief China Correspondent at The Wall Street Journal, co-author of Superpower Showdown, author of WSJ China
In honor of July Fourth, I write about my journey of becoming American for the latest WSJ China. Incredibly touched by responses from our readers — thank you and I’ll write back to each of you soon. From this Chinese-American, a happy July Fourth to all. https://lnkd.in/eVQCygSH
Beautiful, heartfelt piece on the ups and downs of being a hard-hitting reporter in China and on China. Congrats.
Good piece, Lingling…. Thank you….
From a fellow naturalized citizen: Welcome home and happy Fourth of July!
Lingling Wei, thanks for an honest, heartfelt piece of great journalism. Extra kudos from this naturalized citizen and son of a former career journalist/translator. I empathize/too felt very much some of the conflicting emotions that you had as both a Chinese and an American over these past decades.
A blue passport helped me realize my American dream in China, too
Can add fashion icon to your resume.
Thanks for sharing your story
Happy 4th from another proud immigrant!
Thanks for sharing, Lingling Wei, and thanks for your continued reporting on China. It's essential to understand what's happening in China and harder for outlets like the WSJ to cover as you note. I lived in Beijing in the early 2000s and during the lead up to the 2008 Olympics (When Rebecca Blumenstein was your bureau chief there) it felt like foreign correspondents were welcomed with open arms. It was a great time to be there and for me personally. Happy 4th!
