Thrilled to announce the formation of a pioneering advisory group aimed at addressing sustainability challenges within live music. We've united an incredible group of more than 50 industry leaders -- music executives incl. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl and Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino, artists incl. #elliegoulding, touring teams for #coldplay, #billieeilish, #harrystyles, and #jackjohnson, event organizers, venue managers, production experts, sustainability leaders, and NGOs. This group will provide expertise and advice on our upcoming sustainable touring report with MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, Warner Music Group, Live Nation Entertainment, Hope Solutions, and our artist #coldplay. As a die-hard live music enthusiast, this fact hit close to home. But, I firmly believe that for real impact – be it sustainable, social, or financial – we must elevate our creativity and innovation to unprecedented heights. We need to embrace change fearlessly. 🌎 Universal Music Group Introduce their *Global Impact Team* 🎵 Interesting announcement. What is this team's potential for driving significant change within the music industry and beyond? Susan Mazo steps up as EVP and Chief Impact Officer, showcasing UMG's dedication to important causes: sustainability and community engagement. With Dylan Siegler at the centre of sustainability, we can expect focused strategies aimed at carbon footprint reduction and more eco-friendly practices in all aspects of production and distribution. But it seems that it is not just about going green – It also looks like it is about giving back. UMG's partnership with Inside Projects will be key. I am very proud to share Warner Music Group's 2023 ESG Impact Report - Making Impactful Music. This is actually pretty cool. I think the music industry has a vested interest (especially after seeing the effects of recent years) in doing their part to make sure they’re not contributing to climate change. Live music is what it’s about, but if it isn’t safe for concertgoers then there may be issues for the future of live music. Would be interesting to see what kinds of data could be combined to gather insights in this area, and what potential job opportunities could arise from these initiatives to make effective and meaningful change

YG ENTERTAINMENT unveiled its 2030 Sustainability Report last week, detailing plans for numerous sustainable practices. The K-pop leader aims to implement these across all local and international shows by 2030. Goals include developing work processes for greenhouse gas management, enhancing venue accessibility, fan involvement, content influence, safety, reducing venue carbon emissions, and establishing sustainable concert governance. This initiative is poised to establish new norms in the industry, encouraging the broad adoption of sustainable practices. YG ENTERTAINMENT has also pioneered addressing concert greenhouse gas emissions within the Korean entertainment sector, incorporating sustainability measures at BLACKPINK's 'Born Pink' encore concerts in Seoul. YG ENTERTAINMENT's decisive steps not only broaden the scope of eco-friendly entertainment but also challenge the industry to take action. New Post: Live Nation & WMG Execs, Reps for Billie Eilish & Harry Styles Join Music Climate Advisory Committee - https://lnkd.in/gXc9f92a - More than 50 members of the music industry have joined an advisory committee to help guide an ongoing study by MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative. The report, expected to be released this fall, is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of the relationship between live music and climate change, to identify areas where the industry and concertgoers can make improvements to reduce emissions and create positive environmental outcomes, and to analyze the latest sustainable technology and systems that can be adopted in the live events space and other areas of the industry. The new advisory board includes Live Nation president/CEO Michael Rapino along with other Live Nation execs; Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl; and reps from companies including Wasserman Music, WME, Atlantic Records, Upstaging, Inc., Farm Aid, Projects Tait, Global Motion Ltd., Women of Qolor Entertainment and many more. On the artist side, the committee includes Ellie Goulding, Adam Met of AJR and representatives from the live and touring teams of artists including Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, Fred again.., Jack Johnson and Coldplay. Sony Music Entertainment recently released its 2024 Global Impact Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the company's initiatives in corporate social responsibility, sustainability, governance, and more. One area that really intrigued me was the section which detailed how Sony approaches working with its talent. Here are some key highlights from this section: 1️⃣ The report highlighted Sony Music Group’s Artists and Songwriters Forward program, launched in 2021, which embodies a holistic approach to support artists and songwriters. This initiative includes healthcare advocacy to assist with navigating the healthcare system, free counseling services available in over 70 languages, and the Legacy Unrecouped Balance Program, ensuring long-term artists benefit from their work even if advances haven't been recouped. Additionally, the program enhances financial transparency with tools like Real Time Advances, allowing artists to access funds instantly, with over $140 million accessed by artists to date. 2️⃣ The report showcased Sony Music’s expansion of its capabilities across various formats such as podcasts, film and TV, immersive gaming, and AI to offer artists new creative avenues. The Sony Music Vision content studio partners artists with filmmakers to create, finance, produce, and distribute powerful documentary and narrative film projects. Recent premieres at international film festivals included documentaries on Cyndi Lauper, Carlos Santana, Lil Nas X, and Luther Vandross, highlighting Sony's commitment to helping artists tell their stories through diverse media. 3️⃣ The report emphasized Sony Music's use of cutting-edge virtual production and game engine creation capabilities to create immersive experiences, pushing the boundaries of traditional music engagement. Notable projects include Madison Beer's award-winning virtual performance and Iniko's visually immersive music video and companion game "Journey Through Jericho." Additionally, Sony collaborates with artists on AI-driven projects, such as the partnership with The Orb and David Gilmour, allowing fans to remix music and cover art using generative AI technology, thus exploring new creative frontiers. 4️⃣ The report detailed Sony Music's dedication to educating its talent about industry trends and technological advancements to help them thrive creatively and commercially. Efforts to spread awareness on key issues like music streaming, AI, short form video, and gaming ensure artists are well-informed and prepared. Through its partnership with the Sundance Institute's Documentary Fund, Sony provides financial support and grants to diverse global filmmakers, fostering innovative storytelling and supporting the creative community in producing impactful documentary projects.
