As we begin a new fiscal year, VCIC is thrilled and grateful to welcome the following individuals as new members of our Peninsula Chapter: Ellen Rice Chever (LMI) and Eric Maurer (United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula).
Local chapter members are the “eyes and ears” of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities, identifying program opportunities, supporting the Peninsula Humanitarian Awards, and making sure that VCIC is well-connected in the communities we serve.
Thank you! I'm excited to continue to do this challenging work in our workplaces, in our academic institutions, and in our communities. Let’s build inclusion!

This is truly amazing because it signifies a significant milestone in the growth of the B Corp movement in the UK.
The fact that there are now 2,000 UK B Corps showcases a growing recognition among business leaders that traditional models of business aren't sustainable and that they want to actively contribute to positive change.
The exponential growth of the B Corp community in the UK, doubling in just 18 months, demonstrates a powerful shift towards businesses prioritizing social and environmental impact alongside profit. It's not just about talking anymore; it's about taking tangible action to address pressing issues facing our society and planet.
B Lab UK well done for driving this change and well done to all 2,000 UK B Corps 🙌

From 10-11th September, the largest-ever gathering of B Corps, activists, allies, local communities and ‘B’ curious businesses will take place in Oxford: Louder than Words — The B Corp Festival.
Over two days we’ll harness the power of people using business as a force for good, to put ideas into action and tackle the issues that matter.

The growth of the B Corp community in the UK has been phenomenal, doubling in size to 2,000 companies over the last 18 months. (Prepandemic there were ~3,000 B Corps globally, and now there’s 8,200+). This is a reflection of growing brand recognition in the market and across industries (including B2C, B2B and B2G). Simply put, B Corp company leaders and brands are demonstrating credible leadership, innovating and outperforming on purpose and impact. Congrats to many friends and colleagues in the UK who are leading the way! I look forward to the Better Business Act passing soon as well!
We still have a way to go in Canada, the US and other G7 / G20 countries to reach a tipping point where we truly create more economic systems change. This will require more leaders of large national and global companies also stepping up. I’m very encouraged by the growing number of executives, boards and investors I’m advising and meeting who have come to recognize the importance of B Corp. Most have come to understand that it is a critical enabler of stakeholder trust, enhanced value creation, brand reputation, credibility and future-fitness. So it’s becoming core to business growth and impact strategy… and being built into 2025-2030 strategic roadmaps.
Happy to chat with more leaders who will benefit from my briefing them on B Corp, including new standards that raise the bar on purpose-driven, sustainable business leadership. If you’re simply thinking about incremental ESG reporting or new EU standards then we should really chat and I can help bring you up the curve. Feel free to comment “let’s chat”, direct message me or reach out at msmith@impactbridge.co

The American Connection Corps (ACC) is the AmeriCorps program of Lead for America. It is a national nonprofit organization focused on building a leadership force of moral, dynamic, and locally rooted leaders committed to serving the communities they call home in every corner of this country. ACC is the Lead for America’s boots-on-the-ground service corps, aimed at activating local leaders in rural and emerging communities to tackle critical, bi-partisan challenges to advance economic prosperity. Through ACC, Lead for America ensures that national service opportunities are available in “every corner of this country.”
American Connection Corps Members advance economic prosperity in rural and emerging communities nationwide. Placed with a local public institution, members build critical capacity, attract resources, and activate community engagement across the following key areas:
-Economic Opportunity
-Health and Social Capital
-Agriculture and Natural Resources
As such, bridging the digital divide was selected as a core campaign of the American Connection Corps and is an issue that unites all ACC Members as they serve across these fields. Through yearlong training and support, members are equipped with the tools to understand how they can channel these resources locally while also building capacity across a diverse set of host institutions and issue areas to ensure that the opportunity that broadband access facilitates can be fully realized. #AmericanConnectionCorps#BridgeTheDigitalDivide#AmericanConnectionCorps#ACC#BridgeTheDigitalDivide#ACC2023
