This short video never fails to send shivers down my spine… There are nearly 2 million living women veterans in the United States… Women currently make up approximately 10% of the overall veteran population… Veterans make up 14% of the men in America…but among women in America, only 1.5% are veterans. ➡️ In order to meet 1 woman veteran, you may have to meet 69 women. ➡️ To meet just one woman under age 35 who has served in the military, you may have to meet 102 women of that age group. ➡️ The median age of male veterans is 65 years, while the median age of women veterans is 51 years, a difference of 14 years. #veteran #military #veteransday #women #airforce #navy #marines #army #spaceforce #coastguard #nationaldefense #leadership #empowerment

Today (July 26th) is the 75th Anniversary of the Integration of the Armed Forces!!! The United States military of the present-day is comprised of servicemen and women of diverse social and racial backgrounds; all are dedicated to one common purpose: the defense of their country and its citizens. White, Black, Latin, Asian, and American Indian all serve side-by-side with dedication and distinction. BUT DID YOU KNOW on July 26, 1948, President Harry S. Truman issued Executive Order 9981, which declared “that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion or national origin.” In short, it was an end to racial segregation in the military, a political act unmatched since the days of Reconstruction after the Civil War. This act has been described as the pinnacle of the Truman civil rights program and the climax of the struggle for racial equality in the armed forces. Creating aviation/aerospace education ecosysystems with government, industry and education workforce development programs to connect kids and parents to aviation and aerospace career opportunities
Women take center stage in the #military as leaders extoll how important #women are to the #armedforces. What they say is also true of the #civilian #workforce on the difficulties of #familyplanning and #childcare and the importance of reducing attrition for these reasons. "Women are critical to our military. But for many, the demands and challenges can be career-ending. Female service members are 28% more likely to leave military service, driven in part by difficulties with family planning and child care. Reducing that attrition rate — combined with bringing in new #female recruits — is essential to maintaining America’s military readiness and protecting our national security." Louis Caldera, former Army secretary and former director of the White House Military Office, Ray Mabus is a former Navy secretary, and Deborah James is a former Air Force secretary and former assistant defense secretary for reserve affairs link the nation's security and readiness to abortion in a stirring op-ed in The Washington Post. https://wapo.st/3Orx3vS

Honoring Our Heroes: The Impact of Expert Testimony on Military Conscription Laws As we continue our Memorial Day weekend series, reflecting on pivotal moments in military history and the legal battles that shape our armed forces, we remember Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, to honor U.S. military personnel who died while serving. In our second post, we revisit the significant case of *Rostker v. Goldberg* (1981), where the Supreme Court upheld the male-only requirement for selective service registration. This decision highlighted Congress’s constitutional authority to make gender-based distinctions in military conscription. Military law and gender studies experts played a crucial role in this case. Their testimonies acknowledged the significant contributions of women in non-combat roles and reflected the prevailing military and societal attitudes towards drafting women. Despite recognizing the capabilities of female servicemembers, both military experts and Congress maintained that the selective service should focus on men due to combat restrictions. Read more on the role of expert witnesses in shaping military conscription laws in our latest blog post, part of our three-day Memorial Day series here : https://lnkd.in/d4ecsGik #MemorialDay #Veterans #ExpertWitness #MilitaryHistory #SelectiveService #Equality #DecorationDay
