You can't hire staff or find a job in December... False. Yes, it can be more challenging, especially in fundraising, where departments run at 150% of capacity. But slower doesn't mean not at all. Some organizations have fresh budgets. Some candidates are starting to reflect on their place in work life. I don’t post on LinkedIn if I can help it. But this really is worth it. Even if my ‘inactive’ status means that the algo doesn’t even register this post and it only pops up on one or two feeds. If you’ve bothered to click on the read more dots, stay with me… I recently joined as a trustee for the peacebuilding charity Concordis International . They fly under the radar, doing important, delicate, and painstaking work alongside communities affected by or involved in armed conflict to find workable solutions to contribute to lasting peace. Humans doing what can seem like the humanly impossible. But what they do works. They’re a small team punching well above their weight. And they are looking to take their fundraising and comms to the next level. They’re on the lookout for a part-time fundraising manager to shore up their fundraising activities and to explore some exciting new opportunities. It’s a cool time to join. Promise. Most of the team work in central Africa, so working remotely, across timezones (even before Basecamp and productivity gurus made ‘asynchronous work’ fashionable) is all part of the day-to-day. It’s an intriguing JD full of ambition. Bottom line: A fundraiser who knows their onions can have a big impact, helping the team to sniff out the low hanging fruit whilst working on long-term fundraising goals.

I've worked in the voluntary sector for 29 years. One of the things I find rewarding about my line of work, is when businesses recognise how they can help, besides donating cash. I'm pictured here with lovely Tom from Utilita Energy who are kindly letting us use their Community Room for a meeting, free of charge. Thanks Sam Chudasama for arranging this. But they've gone one step further and conducted mock interviews with participants interested in one of their customer service roles. This kind of activity helps Shaw Trust participants who have been out of work and interview practice, to regain confidence to apply for jobs. What's more, hiring managers can spot potential talent for future recruitment. This happened recently with ATM when Jo Regan-Iles and Rob Bastock came to our 'Back to Work' day. It's a 'win-win'! 😁 So here's my challenge to Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Value Managers - consider relatively small, but effective ways that you could help a local charity.
