This post isn't about how good Moneyball is as a book or a film, although I would highly recommend both.
It was a conversation I had where someone made a really interesting point on how data and analytics is much easier to leverage in some sports than others.
Take the NFL or American Football Vs football as we know it here in the UK (soccer for the uneducated 😂)
The point was because in NFL, the field and players are almost reset after each play, then it is easier to use data and analytics to inform decisions play by play where as in the football/soccer the game is constantly moving for 45 mins at a time with no set breaks where play is reset. you could argue that goal kicks, throw ins and corners are similar resets in play, but they are much more fluid, the break in play time is much lower.
There isn't any point to this post, just a brain dump to see what other data and sport needs think.
