These recommendations are so right. Self control and regulation is not innate it has to be observed and absorbed. Adults have to learn how to do it and then model it. You cannot teach something you cannot practice yourself. I an previous job I was a teacher for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and some of the situations were incredibly challenging, to say the list, the first rule was calmness and de-escalation tactics from the adults. Those skills did not come natural to me at the beginning, I had to learn them too to be able to do my job. Sadly as parents sometimes we do not have the necessary training, we naturally follow or parents' patterns which were not always the best. However that is not an excuse for not learning new ways and breaking the wrong patterns.
