https://lnkd.in/ePB7gddY Just like whenever you see newspapers attempting to break down and 'translate' politicians' speeches, I did enjoy seeing this group of people demonstrating how the Disney CEO is saying one thing in order NOT to say another thing! 😜 You really CAN argue, "you're spending HOW much, here?!" Not ALL great, emotionally powerful stories have to be GIGANTIC and VAST in scope with THOUSANDS of characters (only Disney and Pixar's films have had a $180m+ budget)! 💰 https://lnkd.in/eH2wJrAZ But some fans could argue - they're spending that much money not just on pushing the latest technology (only such that can help with the story), but because of the idea that people will continue to be watching and admiring these films decades from now, being in it for the long game - quite like the history of theatrically re-releasing Fantasia down the decades, originally a box office flop! 💭 I love seeing the moderator using Walt Disney's own words against Bob Iger, highlighting how much Disney is continuing to go down the path of sequels (especially for Disney Animation), in effect against Walt's wishes! I always thought that the studio name is the publicly recognisable brand, and that alone meant you were able to take risks and tell new, different stories! 🙂 #animationindustry #risktaking #creativity #IP #branding

For a company that started out by three lads making black and white cartoons about a walking talking mouse called Mickey, how did it all go wrong and can it be turned around? This is not a pleasant watch, in fact its downright sad. With the world as it is right now, and the need for great entertainment to bring people together and enjoy, and provide them with experiences that can have a positive effect on the cultural landscape, what can be done? I can't imagine the enormous stress and deep responsibility it takes to run and operate one of the largest studios in the world, but why aren't they simply having fun with it. Disney management are in a position to develop careers that millions of people would envy, but their effort seems to be problematic for numerous reasons that should and could be rectified overnight. When did running a studio become such a chore? Where's the magic? Where's the belief that things can be turned around and encourage a new era of entertainment. We need more Walt, less Disney. #disney #entertainment #media
