"To anyone who is on the fence about RocketJudge: just try it. I really think that this is one of those things (perhaps like virtual reality or 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐬𝐞) where the wow factor is hard to convey. You have to experience it for yourself." WOW! We got paid a great compliment last week by one of our customers at American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB)! It's hard to be compared to an eclipse 😎 See below for the rest of Joseph Chihade's words about RocketJudge: The ASBMB poster undergraduate poster competition has a long history, going back more than 25 years. In the time that I have been involved with the competition, we have migrated from paper judging sheets and abstract packets through a combination of PDFs in a Google Drive folder and Google forms to, this year, using RocketJudge. While our Google-based system was a boon to the organizers, because it eliminated the copious amount of paper that had previously needed to be generated and distributed, it was clunky and difficult to use for judges. Our judges struggled with the number of separate links they needed to access as well as the lack of connectivity between the scoring rubric, the judging form, and the abstracts. It was difficult for lead judges to track in real time which posters had yet to be judged, which were among the high scorers, and whether judges were using the scoring rubric consistently. RocketJudge seems to have been designed explicitly to solve these problems. Judges can read the text of student abstracts directly on their phones or other portable devices without the scrolling back and forth required when reading PDFs. Text describing the meaning of each score is directly presented to judges as they enter scores, making their lives easier and improving consistent application of the rubric. While we didn't use the real-time tracking features of RocketJudge as fully as we could have this year, the degree of information that is provided is making us think about ways to improve coordination of the competition 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞. The feedback that we got from judges was overwhelmingly positive. One representative quote: "Great great innovation this year."

💡 "Scientists hear from other scientists in different fields, opening up new collaborations." 🔋 "The SLAM is a chance to show the value of the labs to the nation by presenting science in short, easy-to-understand presentations..." 🔌 "For those who work in non-research areas of the Lab, it is an opportunity to learn about the research and, in some cases, see how their work in Operations makes it possible for the researcher to work." ➡ Read the full interview with Meg Rodriguez, Director of the Berkeley Lab Career Pathways Office here: https://go.lbl.gov/whyslam #NLResearchSLAM #NLSLAM
