My hero this week is Jerry Seinfeld. He quietly visited Israel with his family, met with hostage families, and offered support without seeking attention. This genuine act of solidarity makes him my hero. Now more than five months after establishment, the Israel Emergency Grassroots Response Initiative (IEGRI) continues to balance short and longer term needs amidst an emergency quasi-routine that is colored with substantial uncertainty and ongoing war. IEGRI has now identified four key areas of interest that reflect a new phase of healing and rebuilding, even as emergency needs continue to present. IEGRI remains as dynamic as ever, closely connected to the ground and highly responsive to emerging needs. 1. Innovate in the face of ever-growing mental health and trauma needs. 2. Support resilient communities. 3. Uplift rising leaders. 4. Demand the safe return of the hostages and support their families Read more HERE: https://lnkd.in/gymvpFJR Shabbat Shalom and Chag Purim Sameach 🇮🇱

This is perhaps inevitable, but one of the worst things that could happen... the goodwill that groups like Invisible Children and their local partners have built over what is rapidly approaching two decades of hard work can be undone in months by Russian ham-fisted techniques. It may not be critical to direct US national security, but stability in the Great Lakes Region *is* in our national interest... a lot harder to keep a teacup from breaking than to put it back together, and you're likely to get cut picking up the pieces. IC and local partners have continued to save both those at risk of violence and the involuntary combatants themselves, with a major release occurring less than a year ago. Given a few more years, this can be solved the right way, by NGOs working with the effected communities. The only thing that could resurrect the embers of the LRA is the use of poorly targeted brutality and avaricious incentives to expand the cycle of violence... Russian tradecraft, in other words. Wagner/Afrika Corps specialties. This is heartbreaking as well as dangerous.
A major plot twist in the decades-long saga of indicted Ugandan warlord #JosephKony. Over the weekend, Rolling Stone published an article with the headline: "Russian Mercenaries Hunt the African Warlord America Couldn’t Catch" It's a great read about a quite messy situation in the remote border region of the Central African Republic and Sudan where Kony and his last remaining fighters have been hiding for years, with dozens of women and children captives. More commentary and context from Invisible Children Inc. on our blog:
