What a great day in Waterloo! Thank you to all who came out for our open house in Waterloo yesterday! We are so excited to bring our resettlement services back to the area to join our existing services – Early Childhood, Mental Health, and Respite Care – in our new location at 3640 University Ave. A special shout out to Grow Cedar Valley for helping us celebrate the occasion with a ribbon cutting. We’re proud to partner with organizations like you to better serve the Cedar Valley community.

We love celebrating community partners like the team at the Cridge Centre for the Family in Victoria, British Columbia. Tori Dach coordinates their Intimate Partner Violence and Brain Injury Program, and kindly agreed to share a little about herself. 🧠 Where are you from? Victoria, BC 🧠 What is your area of study/expertise? Brain Injury Program Development and Service Delivery 🧠 What do you do in your research/work? I explore and execute ways in which women living with a brain injury as a result of intimate partner violence can receive brain-injury informed support services focused on improving daily living activities. 🧠 Why does it matter? Because when brain injury is factored into healing and recovery plans, support includes navigating how they brain processes information differently post-injury. 🧠 What is one thing you think everyone needs to know about BI in IPV? That it is so incredibly prevalent. And once we know that we can't un-know it, opening our minds to creative and innovative ways to do things differently leading to more safe and successful outcomes for survivors. Thanks to Tori and her colleagues for doing such great work to support surviors of IPV-BI!

Let's continue to uplift the regenerative possibilities of development and community centered design to heal systemic and specific trauma. Here are a few examples from Cleveland. As we consider the volume of case studies and precedents enabling reconciliation through redevelopment, let's also consider how those of us with access to capital and political resources can support communities who clearly voice their needs in bringing these projects to fruition with more expediency and less brain damage. https://lnkd.in/e7bX_sQ5

When kids and families begin working with us, we promise that we’re partners in helping them reach their goals to be happier, healthier individuals. We work to convince them they can overcome any obstacles, no matter their background. It’s not always an easy sell. We know that kids in our facilities may have had loved ones and mentors break promises before. We know that families who seek help from our organization feel burned by past experiences or feel exhausted by the challenges that may lay ahead. Through our full range of services and with our incredible staff, we work to address kids’ and families’ needs holistically, whether they need in-facility support, community-based programs or a combination. Time and again, we work to follow through on our promises. Read more about our end-of-year goals.

Why are physicians happy with the status quo? According to recent research in JAMA, relative to non-physicians, US physicians are less likely to vote, attend public meetings, volunteer, or otherwise be politically engaged. Per the authors: "Physicians could play a greater role in influencing health-related public policy given their expertise and socioeconomic opportunities". This leaves a vacuum that allows for stigma and misunderstanding about healthcare - particularly for those who are homeless or have mental illness and drug addiction challenges. ⬇️Listen below to hear the full clip: https://lnkd.in/gAbaUeCu 🎧Full podcast: https://lnkd.in/g6vYQgAg 📑Reference: https://lnkd.in/gtB8x5VF

Today, we celebrate Human Rights Day, a reminder of the fundamental freedoms and rights each of us deserves. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on an essential but often overlooked right: housing. Housing isn't just shelter; it's a fundamental human right that empowers dignity, security, and opportunity. And for individuals with mental health and addictions issues, housing with supports is key to recovery. To combat chronic homelessness and to help people with mental illness or substance use issues thrive in the community, serious and sustained investment is required for supportive housing models across Ontario.
