If you haven't caught up with our 10th birthday episode and its interview with author and performance coach, Owen Eastwood, here are three takeaways that were among the many insights he shared in our discussion of community. 1. Reflect on our sense of identity and purpose: One action we can take to improve our lives is to reflect on our sense of identity and purpose. As Owen Eastwood discussed in the episode, teams, governments, and communities can perform based on their sense of identity and purpose. This concept can also be applied to our personal lives. By understanding who we are and what our purpose is, we can align our actions and decisions with our true selves, leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. 2. Foster a sense of belonging and connection: Another action we can take is to foster a sense of belonging and connection with others. Owen highlighted the importance of communities and the joy and selflessness exhibited by women's sports teams. In today's age of technology and increasing isolation, it is crucial to actively seek out connection and create a sense of community. This can be done through participating in group activities, joining clubs or organisations, and engaging in meaningful conversations with others. By fostering a sense of belonging, we can develop stronger relationships, find support networks, and experience a greater sense of fulfillment and happiness in our lives. 3. Embrace our heritage and learn from our ancestors: Lastly, embracing our heritage and learning from our ancestors can greatly contribute to personal growth and improvement. Owen emphasised the importance of respecting our ancestors' understanding of leadership philosophy and reconnecting with their achievements. By studying and understanding our cultural and ancestral history, we can gain valuable insights into how they navigated challenges, built strong communities, and found meaning in their lives. This knowledge can provide us with guidance and inspiration as we face our own struggles and strive for personal growth. Whether it's through reading books, exploring our family history, or engaging with our cultural traditions, embracing our heritage can be a powerful tool for self-improvement. The good feeling Sarah found from being of service has followed and colored her entire impact journey including work as an Americorps out of college, time as a residential house parent for girls facing sometimes unspeakable challenges, transitioning to corporate and becoming the first Executive Director of the PIMCO Foundation, and now helping power purpose and build community connection both for companies and through community activations. Sarah brings a contagious enthusiasm, a deep commitment to service, and a superpower for connection. Some key takeaways? 💡 Get comfortable being uncomfortable to get comfortable. ➡️ Know When to Transition. If you find yourself working 60-hour weeks, you’re likely headed toward burnout. Consider your options before burning out. 👣 Every step on your journey is important. As I reflect on the start of my entrepreneurial journey, our next guest is one of the first people I think of with gratitude. I've been on plenty of podcasts, but never before did I feel as vulnerable as I did after recording with Casey Jacox for the The Quarterback Dadcast. If you know Casey, you know that he's a master at asking questions and being very curious. He was a top performer in sales his entire career for that exact reason. And he's an incredible podcast host for the same. I host my own podcast, TheEdge, and I know first-hand after recording an episode guests often ask: How did I sound? Was it OK? Will people find value in what I had to say? And I got in my head for sure after recording this one. It took everything I had not to contact Casey and ask to review it before it went live and to ask if we could take certain sections out. Then I reminded myself: 💬 By being vulnerable and sharing my story, others who have experienced something similar will know they're not alone. So for those of you who come from divorced families, who want to lead with love (and not always tough love!), who have started companies only to close them and reinvent yourself, who struggle with a lack of confidence, who want to raise their children to love life (and not push them into things because you want them to do something), who are trying to bet on themselves... this podcast episode is for you. 🎙 I was fortunate to have my Dad so active in my life. Even with divorced parents at such a young age. He helped shape who I am today, and gave me the gift of knowing I was loved - and how to love myself first. Thank you for having me, Casey. I still remember picking my parents up from the Grand Rapids airport in 2005 as they just returned from a branding specialist Dick Bruso who was helping them name the business, Dick said the nucleus of OTL was this idea of the food target, getting to the center of the target--On Target Living. Over the last 18 years, OTL has educated over 1,000,000 people from all over the globe. Our mission has always been to Transform People's Health. One of my goals with OTL in 2024 is to educate and motivate more people that they hold the power to feel their best, but not through a quick fix or a trendy action. Guiding people on small steps (Habits) via REST | EAT | MOVE. What small steps are you implementing in 2024? Please share OTL with someone who you think can benefit. Our REST | EAT MOVE podcast is a great place to start. My father's Chris Johnson vision was purely to educate people on how they can take control of their health, but it wasn't so he could be famous or have influence, it was to create a methodology that people could follow with or without knowing who Chris Johnson was. He is our founder, but he couldn't care less if you even know that! 💪

As parents, mentors, or leaders, it's our job to help the younger generation move further. This means fostering an environment where they are given the tools to imagine, dream, and believe in their potential. It's not about comparing our life to someone else's show. It's about nurturing the imagination to set goals for how things can be.
