The metric system, never really made it in the USA. I made the comment to several UF co-workers and they told me “that ship has already sailed” it will never fly. I don’t think so. It is worth it a good try to implement its education and implementation again. It is so easy, it is a no-brainer. What do you think? Here is an SNL satire about it. https://lnkd.in/eQkA3yxv

CCC Long Term Plan hearings... think I nailed it with "rivers of shit". ____________________________________ Good afternoon. I’ve been reading through the submissions on today’s agenda and have seen others live over the week. I wonder, like me, if you find it incredibly inspiring and comforting – and possibly challenging - that there are so many dedicated people who care deeply about this city. In my first submission – in my role as Board Chair of Te Huarahi Linwood Ave School – I ask you to consider the safety of our children and how best to invest in their futures. For our community, this means supporting kids and families to get to school safely and cheaply; providing active transport options; providing amenities; reducing our dependency on fossil fuels; and most importantly LONG TERM thinking - so that no child is left behind. Specifically, please deliver all the CRAF & CERF projects that have been cut. In my personal submission, I had to ask myself why bother to submit, why am I here? I have two consuming passions - community and construction. I started out as a civil engineer 30 years ago and have been in construction ever since. I love it! It is all about building the best future for as many people as possible. To that end, I want to highlight how critical is it to build resilience and safety into our three waters – our drinking water, our waste water, and our stormwater. We’ve under-invested and we need to play catch up – more funding should to be set aside in the LTP. Engineering isn’t particularly sexy, a lot of it is hidden away. And you want to keep it that way. The last thing we need is rivers of shit running down our streets. I understand we need to pay for it all and my family and I fully support the proposed rates increase. Ok, that’s pretty much all. As a team, you have some big decisions ahead of you. I’d like you to ask yourself what are your passions, why are you here, why are you sitting through all these submissions? I’m guessing it’s not for the pay check. Stealing from a recent politician's valedictory speech "Presently we are stuck. To get unstuck, we will all need to let go of some things and to be more committed to finding the answers than to being right or to others being wrong". This city expects you to live up to your governance role, work together, and find the answers. At Te Huarahi Linwood Ave School our values are Be Your Best, Be Strong (kia kaha), Be Brave and Be Respectful. I hope you will embrace these values too - and I thank you in advance.

More than seventy percent of graduates from colleges in San Marcos (100,000+) stay in California to work. They learn here and choose to stay here. If you’re a business owner, that’s talent you can depend on. #SanMarcos #SanMarcosBusiness #EconomicDevelopment

It’s no secret that real estate development has long been dominated by a particular demographic, but despite undeniable talent, women and people of color remain underrepresented. The REDI program is a great first step toward building a more inclusive and equitable industry. The mentorship component of the program is invaluable. Our participants had the opportunity to learn directly from seasoned real estate professionals, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities unique to our local community. However, the core reason there is so little diversity in the real estate development industry can’t be ignored: access to equity and the ability to guarantee a loan. Municipalities, corporations, and banks need to come together to establish first-in catalytic funding commitments as well as pre-development funding sources. Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple have all dedicated funds specifically to address housing. United Healthcare, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield have dedicated funds to housing. Bank of America and Wells Fargo have dedicated grant funding as well as low-interest patient funds to support minority developers. We, here in Northwest Arkansas, need to find local partners willing to do the same.
Earlier this week I had the privilege to serve Urban Land Institute Northwest Arkansas by joining a judging panel for their newly launched REDI program. This night completed the program where four teams presented their development projects on land that is currently owned by the city of Rogers in the downtown core. Every team did a fantastic job! This program was led by Megan Brown (in photo) and Tiffany Hudson. Great job ladies!!

Superintendents but also board members, assistant superintendents and principals better start paying REAL attention to the operational "side of the house". Google/read all the documents associated with Florida Court Case SC19-240. If you hold one of the positions above, you might want to "take to heart" the findings in these reports. You can be stripped of your pay, spend time in prison, or worse yet "sign-off" on a construction project that results in the death of child. Most in educational leadership positions don't know a damn thing about construction, remodeling, maintenance, or etc. and they "sign-off" on projects that end up in the same boat as these Marjory Stoneman Douglas findings. The document/weblink below gets my attention starting on PDF page 3. If you're in a leadership position, read the 2nd Grand Jury report. That's the one where they suggest putting you in prison. I'm not blowing smoke or trying to scare you. Just being real. Read for yourself. Case SC19-240. https://lnkd.in/g8rGQ-Z7

Spent some time in Duval Co. and listened to the Chief Academic Officer talk about the impact the principal can make in their buildings. 🙌🏼 I was reminded of the research on the impact of the principal. How are you developing your principals? #NISL #NISLinFL #ImpactInAction
