If the demands of your practice and personal life don't allow the time for 20 hours of pro bono work, you can still fulfill your goal with a donation to Southern Legal Counsel! In response to a need for legal services to the poor, the Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1992 that lawyers should aspire to do 20 hours of pro bono work each year OR contribute $350 to a legal aid organization. We are at the forefront of the fight for LGBTQ rights in Florida, while also protecting the civil, constitutional and education rights of Floridians with severe legal needs. From transgender Floridians in need of health care, to our unhoused neighbors whose rights are being violated in local government sweeps, to children with disabilities in need of access to special education, thousands of Floridians count on us in their pursuit of justice. And they are counting on you to make sure we can continue to serve them. Donate now so that we can continue our important work: https://bit.ly/3NIk21g #donate #donatenow #probono #probonodonation #charitablegiving #fundraising #fundraiser #giveback #makeadifference #bethechange #nonprofitlawyer #nonprofitlaw #notforprofitlaw #notforprofitlawyers #probonolaw #probonolawyers #lawfirm #floridalawyer #lawyers #southernlegalcounsel #SLC #civiljustice #civilrights #socialjustice #humanrights

An experienced facilitator's thoughts for #transawarenessweek : "You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, and then you read." -James Baldwin For every transgender day of remembrance, I try to remember the giants whose shoulders I stand upon. All the trailblazers who sought to be themselves, and those who were discriminated, shunned, and had violence enacted upon them. It is an active memory, as we still have people today, becoming political refugees for who they are and being murdered simply for being; especially trans women of color. The world is filled with such bigotry, but as fellow trans people, we remain defiant to that hatred. The world is in a rough spot right now, but the good things still shine out. Those giants who carved the path before me have made my life so much easier in comparison, and there is still much further work to be done. I can only hope that what little I contribute will make it easier for future generations to be themselves. Having been the lead trans-feminine support groups facilitator for almost too years now, I'm lucky in that I get to see so many people blossom into their true selves, it's an awe-inspiring feeling that keeps me going. Especially when I feel like the position here at the TGRC is just too much, and I want to drop it all and walk away. Remembering the past and seeing potential futures keeps me grounded here. When hosting these support groups, I often have trans people come in and have nothing to say. I ask them if anything is wrong, and they say some form “no, I’m doing good, and so I have nothing to contribute to the support group.” I have to remind them that we *want* to hear the good things and see the successes as well. Bad stuff happens (and it will happen for trans people), but hearing the good things helps us stay positive and have gratitude. I find that trans people are much like the Phoenix. Oppression cannot stop us from existing, we will always be here by any means. Being queer is an act of love. Both for oneself, and an honor to those who came before us. Leaving a link to the TGRCNM's donation page for anyone feeling monetarily generous.

A week from today is #givingtuesday2023. Many charities you care about will be asking for money, as will many news organizations. At LMA/LMF, we believe journalism funded by philanthropy isn't a revenue crutch, it's part of the revenue mix for *all* types of media orgs. If you value local news, consider donating to your local news organization. If you value organizations like ours that provide training and support for Black-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, Family-owned, and broadcast groups, consider donating to us. Our foundation work supports hundreds of publishers, and we need your support: https://lnkd.in/gKWqb6Wh

Win more grants and raise more money for your agency with training, keynoting, and coaching from a seasoned pro who has raised more than $100 million and trained more than 10,000 people worldwide.
Better Grants Start with Better Decisions It's not the dog's fault. The one that starts barking at 3 a.m. and doesn't stop. The owners left it outside. But still, I blamed that dog for invading my dreams with its piercing, rhythmic cry. For years, I blamed convoluted grant applications for driving grant writers barking mad. Until I woke up—gradually through networking, workshops, reading, and learning. Then I realized that the lack of transparency and outmoded applications weren't the most damaging aspects of the grant-seeking process. The lack of grant funding for marginalized groups, like people of color and LGBTQ organizations, is far more concerning. According to reports, only 1.8% of philanthropic giving goes to Black-led organizations, and a mere 0.28% goes to the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, many funders refuse to provide general operating grants, demanding new programs for every grant cycle. How often have you heard, "We don't fund people, only programs"? As if programs magically materialize without people behind them. Naming these issues feels overwhelming or cathartic when commiserating with grant pros. But that's just the start of making things better. On the Fundraising HayDay Podcast, co-host Amanda Day and I are dedicated to making space for awareness and connection with grant writers who want change and groups working toward it. More than Grant Writers, #CrappyFundingPractices, and GrantAdvisor are doing great work in these areas. Follow them on LinkedIn and other platforms to learn how you can volunteer and maybe sleep a little better at night for having done so. **************************************************************************** Hi, I’m Kimberly! During my 3L year at University of Miami School of Law, Brian Adler pulled me aside and said something along the lines of "You've done so much to grow OUTLaw during your time at Miami Law, I want to help you leave a legacy behind. Think about a project that you want to leave that will impact generations of law students that come after you." I knew that I wanted other LGBTQ law students to experience the feeling I felt while attending the 2017 National LGBTQ+ Bar Association's Annual Conference and Career Fair (Lavender Law) and walking into a conference room full of successful LGBTQ+ legal professionals. Therefore, I started working with administration at Miami Law to create the Lavender Law Fund and raised $10,000 to help make sure it was off to a good start. Many of you have supported this effort over the years and I'm beyond grateful for your support! Without you, this endeavor would not be possible. I'm back again to ask for your support in raising enough funds to send 12 Miami Law students to Lavender Law this year in Washington DC and to make sure that the Lavender Law Fund has enough funds for future generations. The goal is for this account to never deplete. To make a donation go to: https://lnkd.in/g2UxQJ8j If you're unable to make a donation, simply sharing this post makes a huge impact. #LGBTQlawstudents #LavenderLaw #LavenderLaw2024 #LGBTQlegalprofessionals #MiamiLaw #legalprofession #attorneys #lawyers #legalprofessionals
