Why do we sometimes feel like we're "just" something. I am just starting out.. I am just doing my job.. I am just an assistant.. Am I really "just" an assistant? Honestly, we're way more awesome than that title suggests. We're like the behind-the-scenes heroes, making things happen. As executive assistants, we're not just gatekeepers; we're door openers, assisting our leaders in all sorts of ways. We take off loads from their plates and make sure meetings are all set, creating the perfect environment for strategic discussions and decisions. What else do we do? 👉 We provide valuable insights and perspectives, contributing to the formulation of impactful strategies. 👉 When unexpected challenges arise, we navigate through them. We're the calm in the storm, sorting things out. 👉 Juggling multiple projects simultaneously, we ensure deadlines are met and objectives achieved. 👉 Fostering a positive workplace culture, we contribute to a harmonious and productive work environment. It's time to challenge the tendency to underestimate our roles. Why do we look down on ourselves when, in reality, we play important roles in organizational success? Honestly, a Yes vote won't affect you if you are not Aboriginal. Take a listen to Julian Hill. It's time to move forward and do the right thing. You won't lose any rights and the taxpayer will benefit from properly targeted policies, informed by local communities, that will lift the health and social determinants for Aboriginal peoples. We ought to be ashamed of the gap between Indig and non-Indig Australians. It's a disgrace. A Yes vote will close the gap and we can all be proud that we're not living under the lie of terra nullius and it's consequences upon first nations peoples. This is our opportunity to right the historical wrongs that have impacted so severely on the original inhabitants of this land. Time to level the playing field. And, unfortunately like Julian, I am greatly concerned about the impacts upon first nations peoples if a No vote is returned. They have carried a huge burden. They have felt maligned and unheard in their own country. The world is watching. Internationally, we have no right to point fingers when we don't/won't listen to a clearly defined request that first nations peoples be recognised in our constitution. If you're not Aboriginal it's not a big deal because it won't affect you; but spare a thought for first nations people and if that doesn't do it for you, think about how the world will view a No vote. Might as well lock in the stereotype Racist Australian. Is that really who we are?

Crazy format, yet wonderful outcome! Last night was the first time I have attended a DisruptHR event. My colleague and friend Jenny Barkan, ACC was a speaker. In 5 minutes she provided a background to the topic of hybrid work and simple but powerful actions to put to use immediately. I say it is a crazy format because the delivery of ideas was tightly limited to 5 minutes, with presentation slides advancing automatically every 20 seconds. Speakers were expected to provide ideas that are controversial or new to the field. Everyone delivered! One idea I went away pondering is provide interview candidates with the questions in adavance of a job interview. That seems taboo, but I think it is worth experimenting. I would love to hear what idea stuck with other attendees at last night's event?
