Who is going to pay to make the fashion supply chain more sustainable? That was the main question discussed at the Innovation Forum in Amsterdam. From our team was Andrea Spadaccini, Sustainability Success Manager, present to join this conversation at the Sustainable Apparel & Textile Conference. Here are his insights👇 It's often said that making the fashion supply chain more sustainable requires investment from various stakeholders, including fashion brands, manufacturers, consumers, and governments. But in reality and as discussed at the Conference, the consumer is unwilling to pay a premium price for more sustainable options. Governments play a vital role and according to EURATEX - European Apparel and Textile Confederation, the EU is facing 16 apparel & textile legislation already. However, governments are mostly asking for impact reduction via regulations at this point. So the choice of who pays to make the fashion supply chain more sustainable is down to brands and manufacturers. Achieving a more sustainable fashion supply chain will require collaboration and investment from them. 💡 That's why the heart of our platform is to affordably and scalably streamline the data sharing across textile companies, manufacturers and brands to accurately and credibly set and hit impact reduction targets. Inditex and IAF have signed today a framework agreement to drive significant transformation in the global garment industry through clear objectives and concrete lines of action to support the adoption of more sustainable practices and technologies. This agreement paves the way for the development of projects that seek to improve working conditions, protect the environment, move towards circularity and promote transparency and traceability in the supply chain. "Collaborating with apparel federations is key to driving a change that reaches the entire apparel and textile industry, addressing both the social and environmental challenges ahead. This agreement will allow us to continue developing and integrating best practices, foster innovation and invest in the most efficient technologies as this contributes to raising standards and competitiveness of the industry as a whole" said Inditex’s CEO, Óscar García Maceiras. “We are thrilled that Inditex shares our vision of joining forces across the supply chain to advance sustainable transformational change in the apparel industry. Linking the forces of Inditex with the global apparel manufacturing community will allow us to focus on real change on the ground, beneficial to all parties involved and with positive effects for the existing global industry initiatives in which Inditex and IAF participate ” said IAF’s President Cem Altan. At Mango we are committed to moving forward both collectively and individually on our journey towards sustainability and towards an increasingly sustainable and circular scenario. In line with this commitment, last Friday at our facilities we held the inaugural meeting of the project for the industrialisation of the value chain for the use of post-consumer textiles as secondary raw materials in Catalonia. The aim of this initiative is to obtain products made from post-consumer recycled textile materials with sufficient quality to be launched into the market. Mango, along with five other companies associated to Modacc - Clúster Català de la Moda i el Tèxtil, will launch this project, generated under the framework of the Pact for Circular Fashion in Catalonia, which aims to combine and coordinate the efforts of all the players in the textile value chain to provide a joint response to the challenges of the sector, establishing common objectives and creating the tools that make the transformation towards a circular model possible. #Mango #Corporate #Sustainability

In recent years, more Singaporean brands and consumers have pivoted towards sustainable practices as means to counter the excessive consumption associated with fast fashion shopping. Established brands like CHARLES & KEITH GROUP have swiftly embraced second-hand markets through a collaboration with resale platforms while emerging players like GINLEE Studio Pte Ltd and Graye have incorporated ‘thrift-flipping’ as part of their business model to encourage consumers to take on an active role in the upcycling of their old textiles. “It is critical to rethink our approach towards apparels to extend the lifespan and preserve the value of our resources,” shares designer and co-founder Gin Lee. As more circular practices are being adopted by homegrown retailers, consumers are empowered to make ethical brand choices with environmental consciousness. This one offers usefull content, real cases, guides, and processes that can be used in defining and implementing sustainable strategic plans. My article on #GenZ #clothingconsumption is published in Young Consumers!
