Baby and Me Program Coordinator @ Martha's Table | Program Management
A big shout out to the Washington Nationals for their generous support in supplying families at Martha's Table with free baseball tickets! Our Baby and Me participants had the incredible opportunity to attend the recent game against the Atlanta Braves this past weekend. For many attendees, this was their FIRST baseball game, despite being native Washingtonians. I was thrilled to see families enjoying quality time together over the weekend. In total, 242 tickets were distributed across our programs. Thank you, Nats, for making this special experience possible! #DCSTRONG#GONATS
Just because Indiana doesn't have a Major League Baseball team doesn't mean the national pastime isn't steeped in our history. We're home to dozens of minor league, independent league, and semi-pro teams all across the state, and have been home to numerous clubs that are now defunct. Ever wonder how the game of baseball evolved?
You can learn how the rules of baseball, laid down in 1845 (many of which are still part of today’s game), became the bedrock of the game.
You can learn how the game grew through the post-revolutionary war period through commercialization, industrialization, and urbanization.
You can learn how the game expanded through Manifest Destiny, the Gold Rush, and the Civil War period to become the “National Pastime” by the mid-19th century.
Does that sound interesting to you? You might like my book – “BASEBALL: The New York Game” – where I dive into all of this and more.

If there is anything promoters of events understand, coming up with an event that can only be truly appreciated ‘live and in-person’ is the difference between commercial success and merely feeding the online machine while losing money.
Take this idea, born out of the childlike view of a glow-in-the-dark toy and a massive ‘what if’: could baseball be played in the dark? And, if so, would fans want to come and watch it?
It looks pretty cool and maybe one-day professional baseball will consider more innovative and exciting ways to present their product to drive new fans into seats…

As Jeremy Booth says, youth sports offer incredible benefits—building discipline, teamwork, and physical health. They also provide young athletes with life lessons in resilience and leadership that extend far beyond the field.
However, sustaining such impactful programs requires financial support. As much as we wish to offer these experiences universally, operational costs, such as maintaining facilities, hiring expert coaches, and purchasing equipment, necessitate that we charge program fees. These fees are pivotal in keeping our programs accessible, high-quality, and continuously improving.
At OPBC, we strive to strike a balance between making our programs affordable and maintaining the excellence that our families expect and deserve. This includes seeking sponsorships and community partnerships, offering limited discounts or scholarships, and being transparent about how funds are utilized to benefit our athletes.
We believe in making a positive impact on the lives of young athletes, helping them reach their potential both in sports and in life. Balancing the economics of youth sports with the priceless value they bring to our community is not just a business imperative—it's a mission that drives us every day.
Let's continue to support and grow youth sports, ensuring they remain accessible and beneficial for all young athletes and their families.

Taken at the @NB_Baseball @ftrstarsseries Showdown, this is an our message on the business of amateur baseball. I know these sentiment are shared at the highest levels, and by many others out there in the community.
This is what we stand for. It’s also why we take bullets, and why people tell players not to attend or choose not to associate. If you’ve ever listened to someone who’s been here, seen the players and orgs involved, and the return to families, then those aren’t reasons not to be here.
There is only one reason, and we’re proud to stand on the opposite side of that aisle with those who share these ideals for players, orgs, and the game first.

I started my day yesterday deciding I need to learn more about Jackie Robinson. Who knew that he played and lettered in 4 sports that were not baseball which, btw, he said was his worst sport? Who knew he moonlighted as a tennis player and won tournaments? Or that he played football? Or exercised his political preferences?
His strength, talent, and guts were off the charts, and the post-sports career that he created was impressive, too. It's all in this piece.
I’ve never been targeted with a paid ad for The Savannah Bananas. 🍌
I haven’t seen their content sponsored in my Instagram, X, Facebook, or LinkedIn feeds.
When I search for baseball equipment for my son or tickets to upcoming MLB games, Savannah Bananas Google Ads and PPC campaigns don’t pop up.
💭 Yet I am dreaming of the day my husband and I can bring our son to a game.
This is the power of your brand.
This is the might of earned.
This is the movement created by social.
Only fools forego the long-term impacts of investing in brand, culture, and connection for the temporary boosts of paid media.
Don’t ask me. Just check with the Bananas. 🍌
