Reflecting on Jeremy Clarkson's venture into farming, it's a stark reminder of the myriad challenges faced by those in agriculture. Beyond the physical demands of the work, there's a complex web of processes and regulations to navigate. As someone deeply entrenched in this field of policy change, I often find myself questioning the efficacy of these processes. While the intention behind legislation is important – to ensure safety, environmental sustainability, and fair practices – the practical implementation often leaves much to be desired. It's as if those devising these policies haven't truly walked in the shoes of farmers or business owners, testing the feasibility and usability of the processes . This leads me to ponder: If you're operating in the private sector, what's the one piece of legislation you'd like to see revamped or amended? What specific challenges does it pose to your business, and how could it be improved? I invite you to share your insights and experiences in the comments below. Let's spark a dialogue about the policy changes needed to foster a more conducive environment for businesses and charities alike. Together, we can advocate for reforms that promote efficiency, sustainability, and prosperity while facilitating meaningful collaboration. #PrivateSector #Charities #Legislation #BusinessChallenges #RegulatoryReforms #IndustryInsights #PolicyChange #CollaborationBenefits Pic: someone who knows all too well of the challenges with farming is the wonderful John McCallister . Omexom Australia supports the #circulareconomy by supplying Foodbank Victoria with clean wooden pallets. Foodbank are in desperate need of wooden pallets for their #volunteers to continue to pack and send food and grocery items to those in need. The non-standard size pallets that we receive have been a challenge to reuse, with many being discarded to landfill. The timber is chemically treated and contains nails, so cannot be burnt, or be converted to wood chips. With the current pallet shortage, Foodbank’s services have been put at risk because they cannot distribute their food packages without pallets. A win for Omexom, Foodbank and the #environment via the circular economy by diverting all of our pallets to Foodbank, reducing the use of timber, eliminating waste to landfill and reducing costs. A couple of weeks' ago our local council introduced a FOGO (food organics garden organics) green bin system in line with the NSW government requirement for all councils to provide a food recycling service by 2030. FOGO accepts fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, chicken, seafood, dairy, bread, pasta, eggshells, out of date food and garden materials - much of which would previously have ended up in the general rubbish/landfill. We now put out our FOGO and recycling bins weekly and normal rubbish has shifted to fortnightly. It brings hope that change can and does happen. Partner in Performance's Energy Transformation (ET) practice was recognised this year for our roadmap to support businesses with their net-zero ambitions - making the Australian Financial Review's most innovative companies list for this particular work. The ET practice is involved in some some super smart technologies and ground breaking ideas. At the same time, much of what we do can be implementing common sense ideas from the ground up. Adjusting fleet routes / timing, transitioning fleets over time to EVT etc. Our aim is to work with our clients to ensure these initiatives are brought through as seamlessly as possible. In full disclosure our local council didn't quite nail the exercise. Week 1 none of us really had a clue what was happening (there's something of a follow my leader mentality with bins) and week 2 we're still not quite sure of exactly when which bin is going to be picked up. The council helpline is swamped. I think maybe they could have brought in our team to help set the exercise up but they and we'll get there. #partnersinperformance #lifeatPiP #managementconsulting #careers #careersatPiP #joinPiP #energytransition #energytransformation

Located on the southern coast of Puerto Rico in Salinas one can find Trito Agro-Industrial Services, Inc. (TAIS), a recycling and composting organization on a mission to reduce the effects of food scraps in Puerto Rico. Founded in 2006, TAIS is committed to providing integrated systems for recycling, water treatment, composting, and soil conditioner creation to promote clean, efficient, and sustainable agriculture. TAIS seeks to change the way Puerto Ricans view food scraps by converting them into resources for farms and the local community through a process called "recycloponics." This unique approach to recycling connects recycling, specifically organic materials and food scraps, to agriculture. Through partnerships with Banco de Alimentos Puerto Rico, Feeding America, and The Food Security Equity Impact Fund TAIS can address its need for additional resources, allowing it to hire a farmer to further its mission. The Feeding America network invests in innovative solutions to increase equitable access to food, and partners with local communities to address hunger and its root causes in the unique context of their own needs and priorities. As the dust has settled on the closure of Thornloe Cheese by its owners, Gay Lea Foods, the real work can begin. There is a golden opportunity for the communities in Temiskaming to make a strategic investment in technology and infrastructure - areas where Gay Lea fell short. The long-term returns for community employment, sustainable agriculture, and brand value can't be ignored. I see plenty of synergies with organizations in and outside of Northern Ontario, like Northern Ontario Angels, Northern Ontario Exports Program, Destination Northern Ontario, Ontario Centre of Innovation, Northern Ontario Farm Innovation Alliance, Dairy Farmers of Canada | Les Producteurs laitiers du Canada, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, South Temiskaming Community Futures Development Corporation, Table of Impact Investment Practitioners, Fair Finance Fund, FCC / FAC, Restaurants Canada, University of Guelph, Canadian Worker Co-operative Federation / La Fédération canadienne des coopératives de travail and government to work towards a resolution. The lessons we learn from Thornloe have big implications for future agri-food enterprises across the North. https://lnkd.in/ge8nzzh2
