Ways to Cope With Work Stress and Avoid Burnout Create a Pre-Work Ritual. When you start off the day with planning, good nutrition, and a positive attitude, you might find that the stress of your job rolls off your back more easily. Get Clear on Your Expectations for the Day. If you don’t know exactly what is expected of you, or if the requirements for your role keep changing with little notice, you might become extremely stressed. Plan Ahead to Stay Organized. Keeping yourself organized can also mean avoiding the negative effects of clutter, and being more efficient with your work. Avoid or Reduce Conflict With Colleagues. When possible, try to avoid people who don’t work well with others.

“How do you deal with this?” I get asked this by colleagues on occasion when work is running extra hot 🥵 My rule is to zoom out and ask yourself if this moment of stress will matter in three years. If not, and the answer is almost always no, I let myself simmer down and let it go. It’s not worth holding onto the stress. The stress slows you down. The stress takes away your focus. The stress makes your work worse. The stress makes you work longer hours. The stress steals away your rejuvenation time. If it won’t matter in a few years, let it drop. Log off more ✌️

Quick Tip: Follow up working in your “Frustration” with work in your “Genius” You can’t avoid working in your areas of “Frustration” altogether. But you can take practical steps to get energy back to keep working towards your goals. Here’s how to do it: Plan to work in your area of “Genius” after doing “Frustration” work to recharge and stay productive without burning out. For example, if you’re a D/G and “Invention” is one of your frustrations, schedule time to do some “Discernment” after a meeting that’s mostly focused on new ideas. Avoid the temptation to just push through and recover after work. The faster you spend time in your areas of “Genius” the more fulfilled and productive you’ll be. *comment other ways you follow up “Frustration” work to avoid burnout!

2wI actually go opposite. Spend Sunday with the family and then get into work mode after the kids go to bed. That helps me get my head right and calendar organized for the week.
