Marketers have an important role to play in building a new world of sustainable businesses that break the link between consumption and environmental and social destruction. A great piece in WARC from my brilliant strategy colleagues Georgina Murray-Burton and Frank Lawley on how brands can reduce the green gap - customers who want to buy sustainably but are currently excluded by the price premiums sustainable products often demand. #marketing #marketingstrategy #ethicalmarketing House 337 https://lnkd.in/dbSBRZ8j

There remains a large gap between consumers' attitudes towards sustainability and their actual behavior. There are numerous factors that explain this discrepancy. Those who understand their mechanisms of action can use responsible marketing as a key to change behavior and thus establish sustainable consumption patterns in the long term. My fellow students Alina Steiger, Lukas Zelek and I have published a whitepaper on this interesting topic. A definite recommendation for anyone with an interest in sustainability in general and the Attitude-Behavior-Gap in particular. Enjoy reading! 🚀 #whitepaper #sustainability #marketing #attitudebehaviorgap #consumption

I'm a big believer that human intelligence is nature's gift to us, to be able to learn, develop language, share knowledge and understand how other species navigate around the planet, as shown in the book by Ed Yong, so we can protect ourselves and others. But are we using it to do more harm than good? Ecological intelligence (Daniel Goleman) and sustainability issues aren't new, but I think they could be spoken about and applied to so much more. Although this is a massive issue that requires bigger conversation, there are some sustainable practices that Marketers and Brand Managers could apply: 🌱Product: Be aware and responsible of the ecological footprints of your product and ensure that it doesn't harm anyone. 🌱Placement: Work with green distributors, where possible. 🌱Promotion: Educate customers and help them make better choices so that they don't harm themselves or the planet. 🌱Price: Charge the 'green premium' price where you can if that's what your brand stands for, because anyone can play in the low-price space, or find a way to sustainably lower your cost and pass it on to the consumers so that more can buy your green product. In fact, we should adopt sustainability practices, not because we have to, but because it's our responsibility. Waste, or what we throw away, doesn't really go away, it still stays on the planet. The planet that we share with others, with the poor people who do the least harm but suffer the most from climate change, and with other species that do nothing wrong but have to suffer from our actions. Lastly, while most companies have other competing priorities, the matter of sustainability is inevitable and should be integrated into company's strategic direction because, as Paul Polman said, "business cannot succeed in societies (or planet) that fail". Would love to hear if you have other sustainable practices or insights for Marketers. #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #sustainabledevelopment #sustainabilitymarketing

Empowering Sustainability through Marketing Hello friends! Today, let's talk about marketing can impact sustainability. The Power of Green Marketing: Embracing green practices in marketing allows businesses to align their goals with sustainability, appealing to conscious consumers and creating a positive environmental impact. Showcasing Sustainable Values: By highlighting sustainability efforts, companies can attract eco-conscious customers and build lasting brand loyalty among those who share similar values. Educating and Inspiring Change: Green marketing campaigns educate the public about pressing environmental issues and inspire individuals to take meaningful actions for a greener future. Driving Innovation and Solutions: When sustainability becomes a priority in the market, businesses in general are motivated to innovate and develop eco-friendly products, services, and practices that benefit both their bottom line and the planet. Collaborative Sustainability Efforts: Joining forces with like-minded organizations and governments in sustainability marketing initiatives amplifies the message and fosters collective action towards a more sustainable world. This post came as a result of me thinking of what positive impact my job as a marketing manager can have on the world, with a product already mined for, created in a specific way and will eventually be sold and used with little control from me on any of that. I think wherever you are, you can play a part in a more sustainable world. Together, we can make a significant difference and create a better world for generations to come. #LifeisOn #Sustainability #greenmarketing #EcoFriendly #SustainableBusiness #EnvironmentalImpact #marketing
