During a Pride Month Quiz Night in Hong Kong, Mayer Brown Asia represented one of five teams whose knowledge was tested about legal, cultural, entertainment and historical aspects of the LGBT+ community around the world. Congratulations to the winning team, Glitter Fever! Our Hong Kong office worked with nonprofit Community Business to organize the event. All participants were a part of the nonprofit’s LGBT+ Mentorship Program, which sets out to increase the number of LGBT+ professionals in the leadership pipeline in Hong Kong to influence policy and decision-making across industry sectors. #PrideMonth2024 #inclusionmatters #MBcelebratesPride #allyship

Pride month is of course about celebration and visibility and campaigning but it is also a timely (and important) moment to talk about how we can use our skills and talents to drive equality for #LGBT+ people forward and the law is one of the most critical areas where we can help realise that equality. So that’s what we did in Amsterdam Clifford Chance Amsterdam presenting a preview of the upcoming report on legal trends in Europe for Rainbow families. There is so much movement, both towards and away from equality, across European jurisdictions. These outcomes and trends have real impacts on the freedoms and status of LGBT+ headed families. We got to hear the insights of Ferdinando Poscio Ilse van Gasteren (She/Her) and Anna Thwaites on what is happening in the law and where we should be focusing our efforts to support #equality. Proud to work with people really using their expertise to help drive chance and support LGBT+ people. The law does not create LGBT+ families - we will continue to exist and appear regardless of how good or bad the laws are. The question we have to ask is whether these families and the children in many of these families should be entitled to the same legal status, standing and protections as all other families. The answer seems like a no brainier to me - Yes btw! Clifford Chance #inclusion #diversity

On the way to the full realisation of human rights for the LGBTIQ community in Australia. One more step forward. More steps to go.
NEWS: The passing of the Bill in NSW Parliament to ban so-called ‘LGBTQ+ Conversion Practices’ is a huge achievement for our communities. It is long overdue reform that will ensure LGBTQ+ people are accepted and valued for who they are – and that they’re no longer told they’re ‘broken’ or need ‘fixing’. We commend all who have worked so hard to get this legislation passed. With the passing of this Bill, New South Wales is now a better, safer place for our communities – so to everyone who has played a role in making that happen, we thank you.
