May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. MBRDNA was delighted to have Lori Nishiura Mackenzie, co-founder of the Stanford VMware Women's Leadership Innovation Lab to guide a meaningful conversation that explores the unique challenges and myths that shape the career pathways of #AAPI professionals. We discovered the impact of language and word choices in fostering inclusive workplaces and how small, everyday interactions can lead to significant changes. We took away practical tools for advocacy in professional settings to ensure all voices are heard and valued. Thank you to the #DEI Council and our DEI volunteers for organizing such an educational event!

“An ecosystem of transformative feminist leaders” starts with ensuring women have a meaningful say in decision-making at all levels and spaces. Bayi, Inc. helps by removing barriers to women's participation in decision-making roles through supporting and mentoring women leaders, advocating for feminist leadership, and building a network of allies and supporters. Maya Tamayo, Aya Tamayo and Rafaella Potestades make up one of twelve teams working to establish an independent, non-partisan political leadership incubator (PLI) through the Apolitical Foundation Accelerator. They are committed to molding a political space that is not just safe but emboldening—a space where women are free to exercise their rights, contribute to political discourse, and assert a governance style rooted in feminist values. The Apolitical Foundation supports BAYI, Inc. with tools, resources and a collaborative learning environment made of a global cohort of peers. Throwback: 2018 IEEE Women in Leadership Conference session I presented (video is the audience discussing a topic in small groups) Before the conference, a couple colleagues insisted : ➡️ That women engineers would NOT be interested in a session on Discovering Deep Genius ➡️ That I shouldn’t expect many to show up ➡️ And no way would anyone want to share and engage. Just a reminder that YOU know your work better than anyone and how it will be received! And stop typecasting engineers as dull! That was also the day I realized how much I love working with STEM professionals and earned the nickname “Geek Whisperer”. 😂 #womenengineers #ieee #womenleaders #womeninstem

What it means to me when someone says yes to the conference! When women say yes to this conference, I have a visceral, full body response. I am so excited that she believes in herself and her future enough to take the first step. But it’s more than just the excitement for that first step. It is because I know that her life will be changed for good and forever. I know she will make connections with other sister leaders who just “get her.” She will experience a sisterhood that perhaps she has never had before, a sisterhood that supports her…always….PERIOD. She will become a member of a community of like-minded, powerful, kickass women who are living their best lives. 💖 Women who are not waiting for permission. 💖 Women who are not sacrificing their own happiness. 💖 Women who are examples to their children of what is possible when you believe in yourself and embrace your power. I want you to say YES and join us at the Empowered Women’s Leadership Conference this summer in Canandaigua. We are so excited to have you that we just introduced Early Bird pricing. Book now and you will receive $200 off the cost registration!
