Law Offices of Neil G. Wolf (solo practice); candidate for LL.M. degree, Air and Space Law, McGill Univ. IASL, Montreal; concurrently, Exec. Master's in International Relations, Syracuse Maxwell/CSIS in D.C.
The ECHO project, and the completion of its principal deliverable - the ConOps itself, obviously - holds major importance for future vitality and advancement of, first of all, the overall aviation sector in Europe as well as globally; second, the many other sectors of productive economic activity which depend upon aviation; third, international security arrangements and requirements (witness the recent EUROCONTROL High-Level Global Civil-Military Aviation Summit); and fourth but not least, the imminent emergence of the "new space economy" and Low-Earth Orbit ecosystem (witness the continuing work of CONFERS w/r/t ISAM). Countless hours have been devoted by law professors and other academic types to the intellectual game of defining comprehensively some demarcation between "airspace" (as in ATM or ANSPs) and "space" (as in SSA or STM). Evidently intellectually challenging or at least somewhat interesting, and no doubt amassing countless non-billable hours, such academic work often is derided by real lawyers, who represent and advise actual clients. As ECHO both proves and demonstrates, real progress is achieved by the persons and groups who operate the systems of international civil aviation. In their hands, the future is bright.
[#Publication] A concept for operations (#ConOps) for higher airspace is now available! Delivered by the #SESAR3JU #H2020 #ECHO project, led by EUROCONTROL, the ConOps defines future operational roles, responsibilities, procedures and infrastructure required to support higher airspace demand over the short, medium and long term✈️🌌🚀 ➡️ More about this important work: https://ow.ly/r9O250OXMrl #HAO #ATM #Innovation #SESAR3JU #SESAR2020 #H2020 #Aviation

#ASW24 highlights: Véronique Travers Sutter, our new Head of #CNS, took to the stage for the Airspace World panel debate with Antonio Garutti, of the European Space Agency - ESA, Charlotte Neyret of ESSP SAS, Lisa Bee of Viasat & Hugh McConnellogue of easyJet on Iris datalink! 💡 Innovating & using state-of-the art technology such as #Iris is part of EUROCONTROL's goal to maximise the efficiency of the network & to respond to air traffic demand ✈️ as outlined in our #RaisingTheBar #EUROCONTROL2030 programme. The Iris programme has recently achieved two critical milestones: 🚩 in 2023 ESSP, the European Satellite Services Provider, received EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification as the pan-European Iris service provider 🚩 in January 2024, Iris took to the skies operationally onboard easyJet – a crucial step towards increased operational efficiency through the use of faster & more reliable satellite communications between the aircraft & the ground. The panel discussion demonstrated that multilink & SATCOM Class B Iris as a first voluntary option for #airlines, supported by #ANSPs, can significantly help to improve network performance ✈️. 👉 Next steps: the aviation sector will need to see large-scale validation results and find solutions to the challenge of costs to expand Iris & extend its benefits. #ASW24 #AirspaceWorld

Interesting project. Much good work has been done, and much remains to be done. IDS AirNav's "Cronos" will be important for Avinor in order to: "support the management of traditional and digital NOTAM messages, MET data, flight plans, ATS messages and pre-flight bulletins (PIB) by responding to current and future ICAO ASBU recommendations and the European Sesar Deployment Manager requirements on the relevant CP1 legislation of Digital Notam and the SWIM paradigm for data digitization and distribution."
📌Contract signed with Avinor - the Norwegian Air Navigation Service Provider. IDS AirNav has won the tender for the supply of the dynamic aeronautical information management system in Norway 🇳🇴 The contract provides for the implementation of the innovative CRONOS system already in use by ENAV itself and the Italian Air Force in addition to the consolidated Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Romania and recently also chosen by the Taiwanese Civil Aviation Authority 👍 The system object of the supply will be implemented in a plan of about 2 years in line with the expectations of European 🇪🇺regulations (replacing the previous one after about 25 years) and will also including the supply of technological evolutions in the SWIM field. The CRONOS system will support the management of: ➡️ traditional and digital NOTAM messages ➡️ MET data ➡️ flight plans ➡️ ATS messages ➡️ pre-flight bulletins (PIB) by responding to current and future ICAO ASBU recommendations and the European Sesar Deployment Manager requirements on the relevant CP1 legislation of Digital Notam and the SWIM paradigm for data digitization and distribution. This new contract consolidates the close collaboration between ENAV and the Norwegian ANSP AVINOR which made and considered the choice of the CRONOS solution as the most advanced in the context of the tender, adding another northern European country of fundamental strategic importance in the European and international scenario 💪 👉 https://lnkd.in/d9KayaSE 🇮🇹🇳🇴✈️👍 #idsairnav #enav #enavpeople #enavgroup #innovatingthesky

This week, at the Airspace World 2024 exhibition, Simona Pierattelli, #FCDI Project Coordinator, chaired the panel titled “How LDACS can drive the digital transformation of air traffic management”, together with Rohde & Schwarz, ENAIRE, Air France and DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. The panel put together representatives from ANSPs, airlines, service providers and industry to highlight the benefits of the L-band Digital Aeronautical Communications System (#LDACS) datalink and discuss the next steps for its implementation in operational #AirTrafficManagement (#ATM) systems. The adoption of the LDACS technology, one of the key solutions of the FCDI project, will enable high throughput terrestrial datalink, which will allow to overcome the significant bottleneck in air-ground connectivity, currently a big limitation for the digitalisation of air traffic management. The panel was also an opportunity to distribute the first version of the white paper “The LDACS air-ground datalink”, prepared with contributions from industries, ANSPs and airlines for the Future Communication Infrastructure (FCI). #AirSpaceWorld SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

🔗 Join #ACADIA to accelerate the availability of digital aeronautical data! In October the ACADIA project gathered 12 #AISPs Aeronautical Information Service Provider and 7 aerodrome operators at EUROCONTROL to acclerate the 💻digitalisation of aeronautical information. 💻Local AISP systems & #EAD the European #AIS aeronautical information services Database are expected to undergo digitalisation and data completeness activities to meet the expectations of #CP1 Common Project One - the coordinated and synchronised implementation of specific #ATM air traffic management functionalities to make European ATM more reliable, efficient and sustainable. ACADIA (CEF_2022_014_AF5 –ACADIA) contributes to the #digitalisation of aeronautical information and its availability via harmonised and interoperable #SWIM services as part of the digital infrastructure of the 'ATM interconnected network'. Participating AISPs and aerodrome operators currently cover 16 EU Member States. More #aviation stakeholders are welcome to join the project to closely collaborate to harmonise data and enhance its digital availability, specifically all #airports identified in the CP1 regulation and any AISPs of EU Member States. If your organisation would like to join, please contact ACADIA-support @ eurocontrol .int #RaisingTheBar #AviationInnovation
