"if you decide to go, just get on with it, sit back enjoy the ride" (Matt Kowalski in Gravity 2013)..... That line is delivered in such an elegant, calming and assuring manner by Mission Commander Matt Kowalski as portrayed by George Clooney in Alfonso Cuarón's masterpiece Gravity in 2013. That photo is what I learned on day 1 in a Chinese course in Surabaya back in August 2014. Completely basic, and far from being useful to be used in real-world conversation. I was jobless when I joined that class, demotivated by the loss of employment and the sole reason as to why I learned Chinese language was simply I had nothing better to do at home. So many question marks in my mind that day, the biggest question among those was "what to do with this thing ?", I asked myself that legitimate question because the moment I started learning Chinese, I realized that it'd take me years before mastering it and putting it to work. Long story short in June 2016, or more or less 6 months (in limbo) after I finished my course, I braved myself to apply for a project translator position in Synergy Power Source whilst knowing that I wasn't even remotely qualified just to hold normal conversation in Chinese, in my mind it was only "I either pull off the impossible there or I fail and go back to jobless phase again, either way it's gonna be one hell of a story ", that mindset set me free from constant fear of failure that held me back to unleash my true potential. Fast forward after 7 bumpy years later here I am working as a technical translator in Botswana There are times for us just to go "screw it, just do it, I'm going anyway" simply because we know that staying in status quo would be even worse. So, for those struggling to make breakthroughs in life.... all I can say is, let me quote again "if you decide to go, just get on with it, sit back enjoy the ride" 😊🤝👍 #chineselanguage #translator #project #risktaking #movingforward

English and Indonesian Teacher | Translator | Virtual Assistant. I do Internet Research, Email Marketing, SMM, LeadGen, English-Indonesian Lessons and Translations. And I have digital store that sells ebooks & ecourses.
Belajar Bahasa Indonesia today will talk about "Kata Ganti Orang" - Personal Pronoun Two of the following pronouns are the ones that we already saw from previous posts: ✍️"saya", in English it means "I/me/my" ✍️"anda", in English it means "you/your" ✍️"dia", in English it means "he/she, his/her, him/her" ✍️"mereka", in English it means "they/them/their" ✍️"kami", in English it means "we/us/our" without listener being included ✍️"kita", in English it means "we/us/our" which refer to everybody The unique use of those pronouns in the sentence is that one word can be applied as the subject, object, and possessive adjective without any changes. Changes are needed in relation to the formality level of using the language: 🔹"saya" is used in a business context or formal situation while the informal or casual term, it is replaced by "aku". 🔹"anda" is also for business and formal condition. The other form for a casual and informal one is "kamu" when refering to singular "you" and "kalian" when use to mention the plural "you". 🔹"dia" is both casual and formal, without refering to any gender. It only changes when applied in literary writing like poem or novel into "ia". 🔹"mereka" is used in all terms, both in writing and speaking. 🔹"kami" or "kita" also used for all situations but mind the listener position, included (in "kita") or excluded (in "kami") Do you want to know more about Indonesian? Let's learn about another thing tomorrow. Tunggu yaa 😉 _______________________________ Hello, I am Susi, an English and Indonesian teacher, translator, virtual assistant, and digital creator. Belajar Bahasa Indonesia today is the continuation of yesterday's topic: "Memperkenalkan diri." (Bagian 2) - Introducing yourself (Part 2) In Indonesian culture, when someone introduces his/herself by mentioning name, occupation, origin, and address or place to stay, people will then ask the following: ✍️"Bagaimana dengan Anda?" ✍️"Anda berasal dari mana?" ✍️"Kapan tiba di Indonesia?" ✍️"Di mana Anda tinggal?" Let's breakdown and analyse the questions above? 🔹The first line means "How about you?" But the word to word translation will be like " How('s) with you?" 🔹The second line means "Where do you (originally) come from?" The phrase " berasal dari" is used to ask someone's nationality or where the person is originally come from. 🔹The third line means "When did you arrive in Indonesia?" Which literally, it is translated as "When (you) arrive in Indonesia?" 🔹And the last means "Where do you live/stay?" Which in detail, it is "In/at/on where (do) you live/stay?" Special Indonesian language features: 📍Preposition "di" can have 3 meanings: at/in/on. 📍No verb changes for present, past or future but Indonesian has helper verbs and time markers to specify the time of an event. 📍Question words can be put at the beginning or at the end of the question EXCEPT for the word "mengapa/kenapa" which means "why". Then what are the answers to those questions? Kindly type them in the comment, if you know ☺ Do you want to know more about Indonesian? Let's learn about another thing tomorrow. Tunggu yaa 😉 _______________________________ Hello, I am Susi, an English and Indonesian teacher, translator, virtual assistant, and digital creator. In the realm of translation, accuracy and context are paramount. Today, let’s explore a common yet often misunderstood translation between English and Malay: the term **"innovation."** **English:** Innovation **Malay:** Inovasi While "inovasi" is the direct translation, the term's application and nuance can vary. Here’s a closer look: 1. **Business Context:** - **English:** "Our company prides itself on continuous innovation." - **Malay:** "Syarikat kami bangga dengan inovasi berterusan." 2. **Technological Advancements:** - **English:** "Technological innovations are transforming our world." - **Malay:** "Inovasi teknologi sedang mengubah dunia kita." 3. **Educational Settings:** - **English:** "Educational innovations can improve learning outcomes." - **Malay:** "Inovasi pendidikan boleh meningkatkan hasil pembelajaran." **Key Takeaway:** While "inovasi" is the correct term, ensuring it fits the context is crucial for effective communication. Always consider the audience and the specific usage to convey the intended meaning accurately. Join the conversation!
