Here we in mid-2024 and not only does the office market remain challenged, but many more companies are shifting their policies to accommodate their employees. Are office mandates dead? I doubt it but we are clearly seeing a shift in the future of work. The silver lining in the office market remains the strong demand for flexible workplace solutions. With over 6,600 flex office locations throughout the US, more companies and even the US Federal Government through GSA have embraced flex office as this shift has paid off handsomely for companies who have leaned into their employees needs. By elevating the workplace experience and giving employees flexibility in when and where to meet, companies are seeing higher productivity and a stronger commitment from their employees too. This cultural and structural shift in the future of work is placing emphasis on the people, and not the place of work. As we have heard from great sources on this topic, including Brian Elliott and Nick Bloom as well as Phil Kirschner and Rob Sadow and even Kate Lister and Julie Whelan, the work culture is shifting and this no doubt is impacting what the future of the workplace will be. Imagine entering your workplace and being greeted with a "hello" and a warm reception! The space in general feels comfortable with an open area, a kitchen and hospitality feature, a place for coffee and even network and meet guests. What's different with the future of work? Its exciting and very appealing too. Its a place where many companies gather, meet, collaborate, and work together. Its all about the people first and how best to elevate their work experience. And if you don't believe me, go out and tour one of the 6,600 flex office locations in the US.
