For everyone who has been asking about Jay Williams, here's the latest update directly from him and his family: https://lnkd.in/gWhVFE3K A couple of thoughts on showing for people we care about during challenging times (specifically as it relates to cancer) in both word and deed-- How we talk about cancer matters. The language we use can help us to understand and cope with this disease that impacts the lives of so many. It can also help us to connect directly with those who are going through it in a way that centers their needs to maximize health and well being. Cancer is a diagnosis that changes everything. It's a time of fear, uncertainty, and hope. It's a time of ups and downs, of progress and setbacks. It's a time of love, support and strength. Some people talk about cancer as a journey. This can be a helpful way to frame the experience, as it can help us to see cancer as a process with a beginning, middle, and end. It can also help us to focus on the progress we're making, even when it's slow. Other approach it as a battle. This can also be a useful way to look at things, as it can help us to see cancer as something that we can fight. It can also help us to find the strength to keep going, even when things are tough. We all know Jay is a fighter. For him and his family, this is a battle AND a journey. So far it's been filled with good days and bad days, steps forward and back. If you haven't known how to talk to him about what he's dealing with, just reach out to let him know you're keeping him in your hearts. Your words matter. Your support matters. As he navigates the coming months and the challenges that lie ahead, each of you are among his greatest sources of strength. No matter how we talk about cancer, it's important to remember that we're not alone. There are millions of people around the world who are going through the same thing. We can support each other through this journey, and we can help each other to find hope. Colorectal cancer is highly treatable if caught early. Yet, despite having screening options available, a staggering 50 million people – approximately one in three eligible Americans – are not up to date with recommended screening. Recently an FDA committee endorsed a new blood test as a primary non-invasive screening option. It has the potential to motivate more patients to be screened and ultimately save more lives. We, the undersigned, urge policymakers, health care professionals, and our fellow advocates to rally behind this groundbreaking technology and give patients more screening options. Here's at least 5, covered in our conversation, about PROSTATE CANCER, which we hope become as common, effortless and well informed as other cancers, that could lead to saving lives of so many men. ✔ Most men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer have no symptoms. ✔ Men should start testing for prostate cancer when they are 50 years old, or 10 years younger than the age a first-degree relative was diagnosed with prostate cancer (father or brother). ✔ A digital rectal examination is no longer a routine test with your GP. The first test for prostate cancer is a PSA blood test, taken in the same way as a standard blood test. ✔ The risk of prostate cancer increases from age 50. ✔ There are a range of treatment options for prostate cancer. Many men are carefully monitored, without needing treatment. Through this month, we will be sharing stories both recent and old, of people who are/were bravely facing their lives with various rare diseases without giving up, in India and outside. Hawking studied physics ( B.A , Ph.D) at Oxford and Cambridge Universities • He is known for his theory of exploding black holes, which drew upon both relativity theory and quantum mechanics. He also worked with space-time singularities.  • He was elected a research fellow at Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge. • In the early 1960s Hawking contracted amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), an incurable rare. degenerative neuromuscular disease.  • After the loss of his speech, he communicated through a speech-generating device, initially through use of a handheld switch, and eventually by using a single cheek muscle.  • He continued to work despite the disease’s progressively disabling effects, leaving behind a legacy for the world to remember him for. Last week, our ‘walk and talk’ meeting took us to Hebden near Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales. Before we decided to try out this new approach to our weekly strategy meeting, we did some research and came across a Stanford University study in 2014 which “found that walking boosts creative inspiration. They examined the creativity levels of people while they walked versus while they sat” and found that “a person's creative output increases by an average of 60% when walking”. We’re not going to argue with the data, and the fact that we can support the Yorkshire Cancer Research “We Walk For Yorkshire” initiative at the same time is a bonus! We have continued our 'walk and talk’ approach each week, drawing inspiration from several breathtaking Yorkshire beauty spots, including Thruscross Reservoir, Knaresborough and the Nidd Gorge. Our experience on these walks has validated Stanford's research, and we have come away from each one with lots of new ideas and significantly progressed our strategic planning with new ideas.
