In January 2024 the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) published their report 'Healthy Places, Prosperous Lives'. This made us reflect on the health outcomes and levels of deprivation in our seven local Healthwatch areas. What challenges are there in those areas and how do they differ. The statistics show us that what impacts in each area is different and that the need for a localised approach to engagement is vital to ensure that all members of our communities are able to provide feedback to improve access and experiences of health and social care services.

When it comes to improving health outcomes and policies, data can be a big help - but only if it's made accessible. Learn more about how you can make health data more accessible to stakeholders and see how we've been doing it with our partners at AARP Public Policy Institute, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, and The Department of Population Health at NYU Langone Health. 🌟 New study from Community Health Impact Coalition in The Lancet Global Health! ⚠️ More than half (59%) of unsalaried CHW cadres in dual cadre programs experienced labor exploitation. And they would need to work at least 40 hours a week to complete their responsibilities! ‼️ Volunteers should not bear the responsibility for delivering essential health services. “Health Equity: African Americans and Public Health” is now available from American Public Health Association Press. I am humbled to be a featured author of the chapter entitled, "Understanding and Applying the Political Determinants of Health." This book aims to help advance health equity by providing a critical examination of selected factors that create, perpetuate, and exacerbate imbalances concerning the unique experiences of African Americans. It utilizes an equity and transdisciplinary lens with the understanding that achieving health equity requires valuing all individuals and populations equally, recognizing and rectifying historical injustices, and providing resources according to need.
