Individuals with Parkinson's disease often experience gait impairments, including slower walking speeds and smaller steps. These changes can increase the risk of falls and other adverse outcomes. When walking ability declines, it can also lead to a reduction in overall physical activity, which can negatively impact overall health. To prevent this cascade of events, Dr. Gammon Earhart, Associate Dean for Physical Therapy at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is developing and evaluating interventions to improve gait and increase physical activity in People with Parkinson's disease. In the latest episode of The Parkinson’s Research Podcast, Dr. Earhart discusses how she and collaborators are conducting studies on different approaches to improve aspects of walking and physical activity in people with PD. EP303: Take Homes From ESC August 2023: Welcome to my podcast. I am Doctor Warrick Bishop, and I want to help you to live as well as possible for as long as possible. I'm a practising cardiologist, best-selling author, keynote speaker, and the creator of The Healthy Heart Network. I have over 20 years as a specialist cardiologist and a private practice of over 10,000 patients. The episode discusses several studies presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress, including one finding that completely opening blocked arteries in older heart attack patients led to better outcomes. Another study surprisingly showed iron infusion did not help heart failure patients as expected. The episode also mentions that ablation seems to be more effective for atrial fibrillation in advanced heart failure cases. Managing weight through drugs like Ozempic was found to benefit those with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction as well. Throughout, Doctor Warrick emphasizes the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach to genetic heart conditions. https://lnkd.in/g2D7hxr2

Episode 61 of the international @MS-Perspektive #Podcast: How to recognize bladder disorders in MS with the help of a simple questionnaire This time I would like to introduce the „MS Bladder Check Tool“, which was developed by a team of neurologists, urologists and rehabilitation specialists. First author of the paper is Prof. Dr. Peter Flachenecker. It is designed to enable rapid management of #bladder dysfunction caused by multiple sclerosis. Bladder symptoms occur in a high percentage of #MS patients, although the figures vary in different scientific sources. For many MS patients, problems begin within the first five years. However, until now, the symptoms of around half of people suffering from bladder disorders have not been treated. This is why the international team of experts from nine different countries has developed a simple questionnaire that patients can fill out while waiting for their appointment with a #neurologist or MS nurse. The aim is to treat bladder disorders as quickly as possible, preferably when they occur, so that quality of life remains at a high level. You can find the podcast wherever you listen to podcasts and on my blog where you can read the full article as well: https://lnkd.in/ev3Yqsxg Thanks to all authors for this valuable work which for sure will help many people with #MultipleSclerosis to get finally, or even better soon from the apearing of the bladder symptom treated: Bertil Blok Giampaolo Brichetto Jalesh Panicker Véronique Phé Kim Barken
